Jusy fired up a blueray movie with great dissapointment. Poor resolution. My NEC HT1000 Projector is 1080p capable. HDMI/DVI cable. Poor color, brightness. Our Geek sq. guys at BB says it may the cable I bought.(Monoprice?) Go into "settings" and it says 480p, and I can't change it, try to and it rejects it. They also said the player plays BD better than PS3, I know, don't listen to BB. I told them I'll call NEC tomorrow, they said don't bother your OK, but I wonder.
Any ideas. |

Sounds like a compatibility issue between the PS3's resolution sensor via HDMI and your projector. I'm guessing this is caused due to your DVI hook-up.
If you want, you could get the Component cable hook-up for the PS3, and it'll definitely work through component. Even up to 1080p. The PS3 just defaults to let you choose whatever you want. If you choose too high (not a problem, given your projector accepts 1080p anyway) it just goes black, and will default back after 30 seconds if you don't press a button to OK the new resolution. Even if you screw it up somehow and press that button while it's black, you can still reset your resolution to 480p automatically by holding the power button down on the PS3 for like 5 to 7 seconds. Had to do that on mine a few times due to my own stupidity. You can then adjust to the proper setting. The difference between HDMI and component is very slight. On movies, component actually looks better to me because my stupid LG TV sucks at HDMI (but you lose the PS3's standard DVD upscaling functionality over component, as well as the extra color/deep black settings, which I basically ignore anyway). On games, I notice that the image is just a very minute tad less sharp, and whites a smidge less bright (but many whites in HDMI bloom too much, in my opinion). I noticed that Wal-mart sells the component PS3 hook-up cable from Sony. They even had a 3rd party one on close-out today for $8 here in my home town. Just saw that 2 hours ago. You could also try a VGA adapter out of the PS3 as well (though I've never tried that). I think they're available. Last edited by baccusboy; 07-15-2007 at 07:04 PM. |

HDMI to DVI is the only way I can go so far, and it works fine for me too. It should at least show it as an option that you can check, because you I can pick 1080p as a choice even though 1080i is the highest resolution I can go. It trys to display it and won't work....you should be able to get that far.

Try this. Use the supplied AV MultiOut cable and connect composite to the projector. At 480p does the video look normal - color and brightness - as compared to other 480p sources? If it's a HDCP problem, you have to get an AV MultiOut with component output. Fairly cheap cable. You can buy the PS2 ones and it'll work. Get a component cable to connect to the AVM cable and an RCA bridge to link the two cables together. fuad |
