Default Feeling the Blues

It's Jan 14th... and in the past two months the BD world has been a roller-coaster of excitement. Everything from the consistent BOGOs through the holiday, solid releases of quality movie titles, and who can forget the announcement of the new year: Warner goes blu exclusive and takes New Line with them. So where does that leave us now?
Well my friends, with all the greatness that has become a solid campaign for blu, and a format war seemingly scripted from Hollywood's best I must admit I'm feeling a massive let-down. It appears we will be waiting for a while on the next big thing. I can honestly say I'm not looking forward to any of the upcoming movie releases (for a month or so), and with HD DVD not throwing in the towl, the sceptacism raised in the forum has left me more irritated than anything. Sure it's fun to guess when Universal/Paramount will jump ship and HD DVD will concede, but until happens I really have lost my desire to discuss it.
Is this the calm before the storm? I certainly hope so because with all the excitement of the past few months, my expectations of movie releases alone have been raised substantially. Don't make me an addicted and take away the drug because the withdrawal is becoming unbearable...

Exactly what type of excitement are you looking for? Hardware-related, software-related, or...?

All things considered I must rightfully conclude that there is a great deal of immature behavior on this forum, not directly related to your post, which somehow gives birth to a number of asinine statements.

Quite frankly, all things considered, there is more than enough to be excited about: a tremendous amount of new players announced, great titles to look forward to, even greater titles being rumored, a substantial exclusive studio support to make you feel even better. On top of everything there have been some excellent reports coming from overseas pertaining to formerly "neutral" distribs who have now fully stepped up in the Blu team. Thus, I am not only unsure what type of news one looks for when excitement is being mentioned, I am flat out amused how the American instant gratification syndrome has completely clouded the thought process for many.

To sum it all up I suppose there are plenty of posters here who really are in their teen-years and have never gone through the emotions of actually winning a format war where so much was at stake.

First and foremost I take your post with complete positive criticism. And you are right, the excitement is merely in the eye of the beholder. I consider myself spoiled based on what I was given. Within a month or so, movies like the Harry Potter's, the Die Hards, Blade Runner, Pirates 3, and the Oceans trilogy were released. And through that, the unbelievable amount of BOGOS. As for the players, I'm excited that such quality players are being released, but I probably won't buy them. Then you have the upcoming releases. Rumors don't do much for me. I really can't wait to get my hands on movies like Batman Begins, V for Vendetta, etc... and I'm looking forward to Predator and Commando, but it seems that in the months to come, the announced bd's don't compare to what was released before the holidays. I'm not trying to be negative, just express my mood on the next month's future of the war. Maybe it's my fault for having such hope for an ending, and perhaps the best thing is to be quietly patient till announcements are official.

Well said. I, myself, have noticed this growing "instant gratification" addicition within North America over the last 5 years. As far as this particular scenario, I am glad that the craziness has slowed a bit. The holiday was an absolute disgrace to my finances and I'm appreciating the opportunity to have some recover time. Had the barrage of thrilling announcements and titles continued throughout the entire month of January/February, I would have, most likely, become financially unstable. Yes, although I am aware of the "instant gratification" syndrome, I will admit to falling victim to it myself from time to time. So, with that being said, with the current state of things regarding Blu-ray, I am in a state of complete content. I know the score and already understand that Blu has been victorious. I can calmly await the final death cry of the HD DVD format while catching up on all of the great titles piled up around my home theatre still waiting to be attended to... a total of 23 to be exact (including 3 PS3 games). I'll be keeping too busy to let it get to me.

Default Hoping for

The only thing I am currently hoping for is more catalog releases in the first 6 months of the year (Jan - June), so far I haven't seen many and from what I can see the pickings from both an HD-DVD and Blu-ray perspective are pretty slim.
