Default Uncharted 2 bricked my PS3!!!

Popped it in yesterday,it started playing the crashed airplane intro scene then 20seconds later the audio went, then it shut down right after, with my game disc still trapped inside.I am now the (not so)proud owner the yellow light of death. It seems that Sony has not lowered the price of the off warranty 60 gig to go along with the recent price drop...it's still $169.00CAN.So I have a decision to make...spend 170 bucks on a referb 60gig that may or may not crap out on me after 6 months(as this one did,yes this is the 2nd yellow light of death for me in a little less than 6 months) or buy the new slim for 300 bucks...moneys tight!!

wow sorry to hear that... my 60 gig crapped out on me around this time last year...

Whats even worse is you cant play Uncharted 2 for at least a couple of weeks...

If I were you I would just buy a slim with an extended warranty... if you go the 160 replacement route it comes with only 90 days, after that your screwed...

Sigh.

This is a prime example of faulty cause and effect. The game didn't brick your PS3. Your PS3 happened to brick while Uncharted 2 was in it.

Exactly x2. It was just bad timing and isn't the game's fault. Still, sorry to hear it.

I get excited about it because I remember when Gears of War came out, and was the first game that really kept people riveted to their 360s, naturally spending that much time had a large number of people get bricked consoles while playing the game. As a result, "journalists" (read: Stupid bloggers) warned people about Gears of War's ill effects on the console.

PS - I am sorry OP, it sucks when a console goes bad.

How does it Brick? I've had my original 60GB since almost launch, and it's been performing fine ever since, never a problem! Are there warning signs? Should I take it to the doctor for checkups?

That's allright. I didn't read the OP right anyways. I though he said Sony DID drop the cost.

Now if mine finally dies I'll still be all

You know... I had a 60GB since launch too (actually since Nov 24th, 2006.) I used it several hours everyday. It was the only source component and I used it for games, digital media, DVD, CD, SACD, and you know everything and stuff.

Last friday morning I loaded a game demo and it crashed. Then I used it to watch a Blu Ray movie and all was fine but afterwords after removing the disc luckily ... it got the YLOD.

When it got it... I got it, instantly. There was no real warning it was going to happen.

I bought 3 year warranty with it when I bought it at Walmart so it's not off to their repair center where I have no idea what will happen.

I think it's just about that time for all the original 60's sadly.

Sorry to hear that, man. It's either sell the Phat and get the Slim or get that extended warranty like I did.

I'm just wondering (this may be a silly question lol), will all the ps3's (especially the 60GBs) get the YLOD eventually? Can't some just never, ever get it? If so, i hope mine is one of those haha.

mine is an original 60 gig, and it also just got the YLOD just a couple of days after downloading the Uncharted 2 demo.

I also read on the PS forums of this happening to a couple of other people. It just seems weird that systems are crashing just in time for Uncharted 2. I'm in Canada so the cost to get mine fixed is 199 + shipping and taxes. Almost the cost of a brand new one. I guess that's what you get when you have owned something for 2 years and it cost almost 600 dollars. What a great product.

The title is very misleading... Mines bricked while watching Bruce Lee's Enter the dragon on blu.... So i doubt the actuall disc has anything to do with it... Its just that some 60gigs.. or should i say most 60gigs are faulty...

Hopefully Sony will one day offer refunds for faulty 60gigs... $160 was way too much to pay for a repair...

anyone up for a Class Action lawsuit

I suspect the processing load that Uncharted 2 places on the original 60 GB models might push some of them to early deaths. Uncharted 2 will be the most advanced game yet released on the PS3. The increase in heat expenditure and disc reads might cause an increase in failures.
