Default Godzilla (1998) for October 26 (UK Region B)

Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has revealed a UK Region B release of the Roland Emmerich monster flick, U.S can at least expect a close Region A release by the same time of the UK's debut.

As a die hard Toho G-Fan, I'm going to have to pass on this one. It just isn't Godzilla to me, but even if it was named something else, it still doesn't stand on its own very well. I guess it's alright as a mindless popcorn flick.

Remember, his name is GINO (Godzilla In Name Only).

Wasn't there a quote from someone at Toho, saying that they liked to call the new one Zilla, as they took the 'God' out of Godzilla?

No clue what they called him in the one where Godzilla fights the 98 one, but I believe they semi-cannonized the 1998 movie by saying that American Scientists got Zilla confused with Godzilla or something...

SUCH a forgettable film. It doesn't really fail, just instantly disappears from your mind the second you watch it.

I liked it and thought the CGI was quite good at the time even though the critics didn't like it.

what is up with your pic? Is that a hint of an upcoming release or just fan created? I remember you had the ring before this....

On topic, this movie wasn't bad but wasn't good either. I am sure it will look nice on blu. I will pick it up at some point during a sale.

I remember seeing this when my cousin came over from Oklahoma. They didn't have the front sound on. Could hardly here what they were saying.

I'm about 99% sure Toho did say that.

They make mention of the 98 Zilla in a couple movies from the Milennium era, actually. One they're talking about him, and a lower ranking officer at a meeting says something about his appearance in New York, and they wave it off as him being misidentified as you said.

In Godzilla: Final Wars (which sucked btw), Godzilla finally fights Zilla...another little jab by Toho, as Goji destroys Zilla in no time. Here's a link to the fight:

They need to release uncut The Return Of Godzilla on Blu ray! Not the atrocious butcher edited U.S Godzilla 1985! They haven't even release it on dvd yet!!

As for the Roland Emmerich Godzilla(GINO), although I do like the movie( I like Kaiju films) , the monster should not even be called Godzilla!

Godzilla Final Wars was okay but could have been better! Not enough screen time for some of my favorite kaiju.

I'd love to have The Return of Godzilla as a US release. Blu would be ideal, but at this point I'd take it on DVD. I have pretty much every DVD Godzilla that was a US release and has the original audio track, I try to avoid the dubbed only discs (from the Heisei era mainly). Watching a dubbed Godzilla is a completely different experience from one in its original format with English subs. Dubbing sucks.

I really hated Final Wars, and I mean HATED it, which is rare for me when it comes to Godzilla. I thought they spent entirely too much time on the Matrix-esque Kung-Fu crap and almost no time on the monsters.
