Default Skipping Rocky 2-5?

I've seen Rocky 1 a few times, and bits and pieces of the others. They didn't interest me and I've heard negative things. Still 'Rocky Balboa' is supposed to be real good. Does it matter if I skip over the middle films?

There are some points in the third and fifth that would be unanswered in Rocky Balboa. How do you not like the Rocky movies?

Immediately watch 2 - 4. You can skip 5. No reasoning other than 2-4 are awesome movies.

If you don't see the fifth one, you're probably going to be wondering why he's in the position he's in in Rocky Balboa.

I saw see 'em all. A lot of people, I've noticed, overpraise 4 and unfairly bash 5. The whole series is good.

That's because 4 had a kickass montage

2 & 3 are really great movies. 4 is good but not great. 5 is just stupid.

Small parts of Balboa would make more sense if you watched all of the first 5. But they aren't absolutely neccessary to enjoy the movie.

Though, I'd recommend at least watching 2.

1,2 and 6 make a very good trilogy.

I'd watch II then go right to Balboa. III and IV are cheesy 80's staples of entertainment, but.....

Watch II: It is a good continuation of the story in I.

Watch III: Characters from the first two, specifically Mick and Apollo, are developed further. And of course, there's Mr. T.

Maybe watch IV: If you like the over-exuberance and anti-Soviet propaganda that typified the '80, go for it. Personally, I find it rather corny.

Skip V: Overall it's a dysfunctional film. Difficult to sympathize with the character, his family situation, the boxing angle, etc.

Watch Rocky Balboa: It relies a lot of the 'Rocky formula,' but the character is convincingly back to his roots, and it just seems to make more sense overall than part V--in some ways feels like a reboot of Rocky V, really.

II is boring
III is pure entertainment form start to finish
IV is absolute moronic crap (though you Transformers fans can't seem to get enough of it)
V is OK and not nearly as bad as the boards would have you believe
