Default Getting my PS3 repaired

Hi,

My 60GB that I bought on launch day got the YLOD last Friday. Lucky for me I had a 3 year warranty on it. So... I sent it off to Tennessee.

I can't believe how much I depend on my PS3 ... not having it was like not having one of my arms or something... really... I realized just how much I love it like never before.

Anyway... I got a message saying it was repaired and would arrive back to me and according to the tracking today is the day. Then.... something bad happened.

UPS rolls up yesterday and I'm thinking "IT'S HERE" and they pull out a box that's the right size but way too light.

Turns out it was a "coffin" or the box Sony sends you with instructions for making an exchange.

I have a feeling they sent me back my broken PS3 with instructions for returning it to Sony for exchange.

Seems like I will have to wait now while my PS3 goes to Texas this time.

I tell you it cuts both ways. I really want my PS3 back now. I'm not sure that Sony still exchanges 60GB units and I've heard some of their refurb-ed units only last a few months as well.

So there... I just had to tell someone... hopefully I will have my PS3 back and working again someday. It's very hard to be without it. I even bought a PSPGO to have in the meantime.

I feel your pain, seriously. I just got another refurbished 60GB myself after sending my previously YLOD'ed refurb 60GB to Sony this past 2 weeks, so we shall see how this goes. The minute the PS3's fan goes into overdrive, I'm gonna have a "friendly" chat with the Sony rep on the phone.

Hope everything turns out for the better for you, Brian.

I also recently sent my ylod60 gig to sony for repair and yes they send you an empty box for exchange of a refurb 60 gig back to you when they receive yours. i beleive sonys policy is to replace your unit with the same model unit you send to them so if u send in a 60 gig ull get back a 60gig or 80/120 w/e it is

Dont feel bad about the refurb, I had 2 go through the same sad process, and it actually worked out faster than I expected, as long as you do your part. My replacement has worked out like a charm and lived way past it's few months expectation. It was back when they were still replacing 60's with other 60's. Good luck and chin up.... it could have been the day after warranty expiration!

Well,

Thanks for the replies. Those of us that have been through it must know what it's like to have the PS3 not working.

I am glad it happened while under warranty vs the day after.

The warranty I had/have is through WalMart so my PS3 has already made a trip to Tennessee to a repair center and I just thought that it was coming home fixed.

But then... the coffin showed up.

My UPS guy comes late so I'll see what's up later on today. I suppose it could come back fixed. I got a message on my phone saying it was repaired and sent back but then I never expected Sony's Coffin to show up.

All said... I'm much happier to have it in Sony's system then having Walmart's Warranty people "working" with it.

We shall see. A neighbor loaned me his SamSung BDP1000 that he had in storage because it's such a hunk of junk so I'm still able to watch Blu Ray everyday but the player really is crap and you never know if it will actually play something or not.

I am wondering what do you do in the event you have upgraded your HD in your ps3 and then it dies? Do you throw the OG HD back in before exchange? I imagine that's what you do just curious, haven't had a problem with my OG 60gb yet. It has been acting a little weird sometimes though.

In that case, Yes, you would want to keep your upgraded HDD. However, unless it had been recently backed up, you may end up losing all your data since a replacement PS3 would have to reformat it.

Yeah... I had upgraded my hard drive to a 500GB drive.

I reformatted the original 60GB drive and re-installed it before sending it out.

In the instructions that came with the coffin they mention deactivating your master account. I never got a chance to do that but maybe it doesn't matter since I sent it in with a blank hard drive.

Hopefully stuff that I had picked up when it was free like Rag Doll Hung Fu (it was free for a while) will still be on record as "mine" whenever I get back up and running.

I got a 60 back from Sony for my 60. Of course, I didn't get the YLOD I actually broke my HDMI connector pins trying to shove the HDMI cable in upside down or at the wrong angle.

Ha... Operator error,... Glad they fixed that for ya.

I will be happy if I send it out and get a 60Gb back because I do like to listen to SACD's on my PS3.

I suppose the real issue I had was they "teased" me by saying it was fixed and on it's way back. In fact... maybe it has been repaired but the arrival of the shipping pre-paid coffin from Sony makes me think that's unlikely.

Hey,

As I expected my PS3 came back with a note inside saying to send it to Sony.

It's actually the friday before last that I got the YLOD so it's been 2 weeks thus far and I imagine it will be next Friday before I have it back.

Ether way... I'm glad it's going to Sony for exchange.

Right there with ya. Tho' technically my 2nd YLOD was still under the 90-day warranty that Sony gave me after the initial YLOD fix.
