Paramount will be releasing Harold and Maude on Blu-ray on December 7th. The film was previously released by Criterion, but has since gone out of print. This will be #29 in the Paramount Presents line.

*For the restoration, the original negative was scanned in 4K and careful color correction and cleanup were undertaken to pay homage to director of photography John Alonzo's memorable work and honor the look of the film. In addition, the incredible soundtrack was completely remixed using recently discovered tracks to add clarity and depth.

Cult classic pairs Cort as a dead-pan disillusioned 20-year-old obsessed with suicide and a loveable Gordon as a fun-loving 80-year-old eccentric. They meet at a funeral, and develop a taboo romantic relationship, in which they explore the tired theme of the meaning of life with a fresh perspective.

No, why would it be for this movie?. It's simply a Tuesday, when nearly all home video releases come out.

Good that it will at least be in circulation again, weird they didn't make 'Rosemary' or 'Days' a Paramount Presents title if this is one as well.

It's because the Presents banner is for new 4K (or higher) restorations, and these titles already had high quality masters, and I guess they didn't think it would be worth it to do yet again new masters.

Nashville had a 2K master, so I guess they felt like upgrading that one.

Never did pick up that Criterion disc for whatever reason. Guess I get a second chance to own this on physical.

Technically, it’s a 50th Anniversary release (Dec. 20th, 1971). Off by a few weeks, but nice touch by Paramount nonetheless.

So glad to read this news! Hopefully this will be like many other recent Paramount releases, and widely available at stores like Walmart & Target at a decent price.
The Criterion edition is gorgeous, but their discs are not widely available at decent prices. I realize in the US they go on sale frequently at some bookshoppes, but this isn't the case in other parts of the world.
I was probably about 12, & stumbled upon this film as a VHS rental. My mother was horrified when she came down to the family rec room & saw what I was watching - of course she came in at the wrong moment & didn't understand the context of the scene. My love for the film has only grown with each repeated viewing in the 35+ years since.
Hopefully a younger generation will more easily discover this cinematic gem.

Let's hope so. It certainly deserves to be part of the "Presents..." line, especially when you consider they have put out stuff like the 1999 version The Haunting (which I love in its own right, but...you know).
