Unhappy Problems with slim PS3

I have the ps3 80gb for 2 years and never had a single problem. Couple of months ago i purchased the new ps3 slim, and its been having problems every now and then. Just bought G.I.Joe and Chuck and neither works!
You put the disc in, it makes a loud noise after 3 seconds like it is going to another compartment and never plays the content.
If anyone has a dvd-changer or cd-changer, knows what i am talkin about. When you switch dics it makes a noise changing the disc, right?!. That is exactly the same noise i hear with the slim ps3. The majority of my blu rays, when you put a disc, it starts playing within 5 seconds, no noise. But some discs are not been played at all, it seems it does not recognize the BR disc and weird as it may seem it makes a loud noise like it sends the disc to another location..

Is anyone having the same problem?!

I think we have the same issue. Its firmware 3.01

I just got a PS3 Slim 120GB, and I noticed that when I paused and skipped chapters on BDs that had DTS-HD Master Audio, the audio would completely drop and I would hear a silent hiss. If I scanned backwards, the audio would come back. This happened on TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio by the way.

I took the console back to the store today and got a different one. Got home, firmware 3.00 was loaded and everything worked as it should, updated the new console to 3.01, same issue on a different console.

Thanks a lot Sony!

BD4Life, I'm going to guess that you have a Pioneer receiver. That is a known issue with the PS3 slim and Pioneers. It's a HDMI handshake issue that should be resolved in a future firmware update.

memebras, it sounds to me like the loading mechanism is malfunctioning on your unit. If possible, take it back for exchange, and see if that resolves the problem.

As soon as I started reading his post I had the exact same thought.

it sounds exactly like mechanism malfunction. I thought of taking it back for an exchange, i was just worried of two things
a) others were having the exactly same issue
b) update issues. I read somewhere people dl the new update and messed up the unit.

Funny thing i learned just yesterday night. I loaded G.I. Joe and does not work, then i tried another disc, that i already know works. Then i tried again G.I. Joe and this time it works perfectly with absolutely NO noise whatsoever. The disc slides in and stays there quietly! It must be problems with the mechanism..

thanks guys.. i guess i got myself a "lemon" player...

Speaking of, I had a weird "hiccup" last night with my Slim. I hope it was just an isolated incident...

Finished watching Hot Fuzz, ejected the disc, and used the remote to turn off the PS3.

When I pulled out the disc, the Slim powered back on, but wasn't sending any signals to the receiver. Pushing the power button, or even holding it down for several seconds, did absolutely nothing.

I had to unplug the unit and plug it back it. All seemed well after that.

It seems more and more issues are coming to light with the new slims every day. I had decided to buy one, but now I'm not so sure.

Question PS3 Slim

Same here. I was going to get one for Christmas, and put the older PS3 in the den. I think I will wait a while now.

I have two PS3's and was going to replace them both with the Slim but since day one more and more people have had issues with the system. I haven't updated my firmware either to the 3.01 because of everything I have read. I learned my lesson when the PS3 and Xbox 360's were originally released just wait a few months until all the issues are worked out then buy one.
