Well as always Americans get the best hardware first.... I'am waiting for getting my hands on a blu-ray standalone player.

But canot find the information I am looking for so hope someone can give me the answer.

if I buy a Sony BDP-S300 can I also record tv programs with is. ?

afaik, the answer is no. it is not a DVR

It's gonna be a while before we see Blu recorders.
In the mean time, I think it's called a TIVO or a cable/satellite DVR box.
I would recommend the Sony BDP-S300 Blu player. It's a really good way to get your feet wet in the Blu water. Sorry, bad choice for words!
But this player is great if you're buying your first Blu player, or if you're pockets are not deep enough for the likes of the even better Pioneer Elites or the forthcoming Denons.

I think we should go there. How sick would it be to have a dvr type bd machine???

At this point why would we want to record on blu-ray when everything is still low quality television.. And is quantity really better then quality? i Could see if you wanted to record a whole box set on one bluray then that would be kinda cool

Off-the-air broadcast is in HD. And it's free too.

While not a lot of cable channels are in HD, in the next couple of years that will change. Then you'd see more BD recorders in the market. Tivo may come up with one and you may get to build your own device using a PC.
