Speaker placement question.

I've got a question. I'm going to get a surround system. The problem is the chair where I sit most of the time is in the back right corner. I could put the right surround speaker behind the chair in the corner, it would be right next to my head. The left surround speaker could be put in the opposite corner, but it would be about 10 feet away. If I set it up like this would adjusting the levels be sufficient. Or should I try to put the left surround closer. Unfortunately this is a small bedroom and the furniture can not be moved. The room is set up about the only way it can be. I would appreciate any advise or suggestions.
