Default Equipment in the back or a closet

In a lot of the galleries I see the AVR, bluray, etc. in a closet or behind the seating areas. How do you control the equipment when it is hidden or behind you?

Remotes that use RF (Radio Frequency) instead of IR (Infrared). IR has to be "line of sight" to work. You use a RF remote that sends signals to a RF receiver, which has little "tenticles" that attach to the IR receiver on your equipment.

I use a Universal MX-980 if you want to check it out online.

There are also IR extenders. You have an IR "eye" in the front of your room and a cable to a box near the equipment with the leads to the IR sensors on your devices.

For me the gear is behind me when I am watching A movie . I just point the remote at the screen & the screen reflects the signal to the component behind me .

I just point the remote behind me I don't make a lot of "adjustments" so it hasn't caused me much trouble yet.

ONce you've used an RF repeater, you'll never go back to "pointing" a remote...it's awesome. I have on both of my setups...

A lot of good options listed here, ones even I was not yet aware of.

If you have cat5 cable in the wall you can use an IR balun to extend the signal out. It will allow you to place the IR eye at the front but keep the equipment elsewhere and extend the signal.

Hope that helps.
