Default How about some good MARVEL movies?

Quote:
It's a small step, but a step in the right direction. Sign the petition and let's see where it leads us.

There has been more than enough chatter in our comments sections to know that we fans are not happy with the way most of our favorite Marvel characters are portrayed on screen. It's time we take a more active role and let the executives at Disney and Marvel know how we feel. Below you'll find the petition I've created. Let's see if we can garner enough support to make the big wigs take notice.
Quote:
To: Disney & Marvel Entertainment

We are your loyal customers. We've purchased your comics and merchandise for most of our lives.

We are your avid supporters. We've followed the history of your comic characters from beginning to end and back again. We've welcomed new writers and illustrators, as well as their diverse character interpretations, with open arms.

We do not wish to see anymore of our beloved characters portrayed in movies that do not showcase their true potential.

We do not want to see the essence that made these characters great destroyed by studios that only wish to make a quick buck.

We are tired of trying to convince the general movie-going audience that your characters are fictional masterpieces after a horrible film shows them as otherwise.

We are frustrated seeing mediocre films that could and should have been great.

We are your true fans, the backbone of your industry.

And we implore you to find a way in which to bring these lost heroes home. Buy their rights back from Sony, Fox, Universal and anyone else who does not deserve to have them.

Do whatever it takes to finally give us what we've been missing: a united Marvel Cinema Universe. It has the potential to revolutionize comic based movies, and solidify your high ranking place in the film industry.

I know, at times, we seem hard to please. That is only because we care so much about these characters; they've touched each of our lives in one way or another. Is it too much to ask for you to back this endeavor when it will be both enormously pleasing to fans and prove financially lucrative for you?

We know it is not. We know that now is the time for these measures to be taken. And we hope, at least now, you know it too.

So, y'mean, besides Iron Man, the second Hulk movie, the first X-Men, and the first two Blades and Spiderman's, then?

I don't think the movies are as bad as people make them out to be... however they could be more faithful to the source.

Signed it.

This petition means absolutely nothing to me. What do "good" movies mean? Simply telling a studio you want better movies has zero depth imo and instead comes off as a little naive. I'd like to see some of the people signing this to draw up their own treatments of what they consider a good movie, because I can guarantee there will be a slew of different opinions as to what is good. My thoughts

What do you mean good movies? They gave us spider man 1-3 even though some would disagree about 3, the incredible hulk, iron man 1-2.

What is this exactly? There are a ton of good Marvel movies. Some are the biggest earners of all-time. I don't get it.

Because online petitions are incredibly useful...

I mean they saved HD-DVD with one of those... right?

btw: Most of the Marvel flicks have been good, and the Marvel flicks now that they actually HAVE their own studio and control their own franchises have been better than ever {Hulk and Iron-man} and show that in the future they will continue this trend {Iron-man 2 and everything leading up to the Avengers movie}

So this petition is doubly useless.

This is an absolutely useless petition. Studios make movies that will sell to the broadest possible audience. Look at what happened when Warner delivered as faithful a comic book movie as there could be in Watchmen. It horribly underperformed expectations despite a huge marketing campaign. Real superhero stories that most of the fans desperately want do not connect that well with the mass audience.

Fans are going to have to accept that the Marvel movie rights will be split up among the current studios. Honestly, even if Disney had all the rights, I do not see huge team-up movies in the offering. Warner could license every character in the DC Universe for a movie, but have we seen anything like that? Heck, we do not even see Batman in a cameo of a Superman movie or vice-versa.

Good point about Watchmen. Still don't understand at all why many dislike it, even call it a bad movie.

But it's not proof other stories couldn't be done faithfully and appeal to audiences.

IMO about half of Marvel based movies have been good. Sure there have been stinkers but over-all I have been pleased. I would rather have many Marvel movies that are mostly good than the very few DC movies even though DC has a higher batting average IMO.

I enjoyed the Fantastic Four movies. I wish they were better but I am glad they were made. I am glad they made XO: Wolverine even though it did not live up to it's potential. I hope these movies keep getting made and I think we will see improvements over time. With DC, when they make a bad movie, it seems like they back off for a long time before coming back.

Other than Elektra, Hulk, and Man-Thing I think we already had a lot of good Marvel movies.

Regardless of how many people sign a petition, Marvel is a company and like all companies, their #1 goal is to make money. Marvel made TONS of money with the Spider-Man movies (not including how many people bought merchendise and comics because of the movies) without spending a dime. Hell, they even made a lot of money on the first Hulk from the rights alone. They've made more money on some of these movies then the few they made on their own. That's what the CEOs will look at, not signatures. Not trying to be Captain Buzzkill, just being honest.

It's not as if Marvel fans have had a lot to complain about lately -- they've had a string of excellent releases in the past few years. Now that they have more freedom, CREATIVE freedom at that, chances are they will be even more faithful to the original source material.

People BS about "Oh god! Disney bought Marvel! ohnoez!"

they're doing for Marvel what they did for Miramax -- remember when Disney cut out all those cigarette scenes from Clerks because they're so PC? Yeah...didn't happen. You're worrying over nothing. The only thing Disney screws up is their own classics...and anything created by Jim Henson, sadly.

Marvel sold the film rights to their characters long ago because they were on the verge of bankruptcy. They had these assets that weren't making them any money because they couldn't afford to produce the films themselves.

It changed at the turn of this century though. They built an independent studio in their own design and used it to create great films that were both commercially and critically successful.

Now that Disney is the parent here, don't expect any film properties to fall anywhere else. From here on, new properties will be produced by Marvel and distributed by Disney. I wouldn't expect them to go out of their way to buy back properties like X-men or Spider-man, but if the rights ever are allowed to revert, don't expect Disney to sell them off.

It's sort of like WB and DC. You won't see a primary DC character appearing in a non-WB film any time soon. And similarly, you won't be seeing a primary Marvel character appearing in a non-Marvel and non-Disney film either, unless the rights are already owned by another studio at the time.

I'd personally love to see more better Marvel films, but a petition isn't going to do it. I doubt it could even motivate Disney to attempt to renegotiate the deals which brought the major properties away from Marvel in the first place.

Personally I didn't have a big problem with any of the previous Marvel movies:
  • Blade trilogy: first was very good, follow-ups not so good
  • X-Men trilogy: great movies (I also liked the third installment)
  • Spider-Man trilogy: absolutely loved all of them (included third one)
  • Dardevil: Diretor's Cut is an OK to good movie
  • Iron Man: Awesome movie
  • Hulk: interesting new take on the Hulk
  • Incredible Hulk: Great movie
  • Fantastic Four movies: good movies when taken as family entertainment
All in all, I think the Marvel movies so far have been of pretty good quality, but that's just my opinion of course. So for me, there woudln't be need for a petition.

Marvel Studios itself has made only two movies, and those were pretty good. So this entire petition is pretty pointless.
