Default Circuit city vs Best buy

It seems that Best buy is offering the Samsung BD-P1200 with a $100 gift card this week, but CC has the same player 2 hundred dollars more with no card. CC also has the HD-DVD players on sale, as BB does not. This can be checked online.

In my local stores BB is pushing Bluray, with demos, movies on stands in the isles. While my local CC has demos of HD-DVD, and the bluray movies scattered about and hard to find.

Are they taking sides now????

Well, if they are then CC is going to lose by going the wrong way.

I know for best buy, companies like samsung, sony, microsoft and toshiba all pay for the end caps they have in the stores....So best buy isn't necessarily "choosing" a side, they are simply selling the ends of the aisles.

At my Circuit City they have alot of Blu-Ray movies and very few HD-DVD's if any last time I went which was 3 days ago. As a matter of fact I didn't see any more HD-DVD's this last time I went.

CC has the worst customer service period! I have everything price matched at BB if needed so that I never have to step another foot in CC again. The organization of there stuff is piss poor and so is the attitude of the employees of every CC I've ever had to shop at. The fact that they are still around surprises me.

I hear ya. I worked for both companies, and the difference was amazing. I was in home theater with both, and wanted to kill myself every second at CC. Best Buy, while not the best job and REALLY not the best pay, was at least fairly enjoyable. There was a sense of desperation within management at CC and it felt like Big Brother was watching every second.

In terms of selection, the Best Buy around me has killer selection for both Bluray and HD-DVD...

The CC around here is terrible for media, including CDs and SD-DVDs...

However, both failed me miserably this week when, after going there several times each, and asking several different people, I was not awarded with the remastered Fifth Element...

huh my BB and CC are exactly different than that. CC is pushing Blu while BB has one shelf of both of them. no actually it would be just one row.

So what is the retail price of the Samsung BD-P1200? Is the CC online price of 799.99 a mistake? I've never seen it over 599.99 before.

The BB I work for is straight down the middle. HD DVD player hooked up to 1080p Toshiba LCD. The Sony BR player hooked up to the XBR2 40". And HD DVD/BR movie section is split down the middle. The LG 1199.99 combo is also running on the floor. Although I've never seen a single person buy it. I wonder why... [Sarcasm]

This is where is leans SLIGHTLY HD DVD we have the A20 and the A2 as display models which brings the total to 3 HD DVD display/function unit. And the Panny BR player which brings it to 2 BR vs 3 HD DVD.

As for stock the last I check:

A20/A2:16
Sony 3000: 1
Panny: 1
Samsung: 4

As a department we have 10 people. 4 of us have a PS3, 1 of us owns the 360 HD DVD add-on (It used to be 2 until I sold mines). And the other 5 are just DVD.

As for CC they are very close to our BB within 2 miles. I go in there to quiz them sometimes, I'm pretty mean sometimes. Like whats the max GBPS allowed in HDMI 1.3. They too are down the middle movie wise, as for the BR they suck monkey balls. 0 BR players, 2 HD DVD player. I asked the supervisor and he just gave me a look like "BR has a chance?"

Although they have a very sexy PS3 hookup, the 40 inch XBR2. All we have is the 2010 series from Sony in 32 inches.

My local circuit city treats both equal. There is a demo area for both HD-DVD and Blu-ray. However people realise that Blu-ray players have a far more larger presence in any store they go. With HD-TV being adopted like poor injured little puppies, Blu-ray is the most obvious choice when satisfying your High Def movie experience. HD-DVD is pretty much dead. Only n00bs and MSFT fans and Sony haters buy HD-DVD. Any true Home Theater enthusiasts will want the best High Def tech availible. This is Blu-ray.

sooo weird because based on my experiences with best buy employees, it seems that they are taking the side of HD-DVD.
i and others have been fed so much false info regarding blu-ray and hd-dvd - mainly in favor of hd-dvd, its ridiculous.
