Hey guys!
Well I wasn't planning an upgrade on my subwoofer as it was working just fine. Here are the details of the one I was using: Infinity TSS-450 Subwoofer Infinity Subwoofer Specifications: - Bass-Reflex Design - 100-Watt RMS Amplifier - 8" Side-Firing Subwoofer - Freqeuncy range: 39 Hz - 200 Hz - 10-5/16"W x 16-1/4"H x 16-1/4"D Obviously not the nicest one in the world so I am not that hurt about it. In my living room which is about 14' x 12', I have 4 mini satallites, 2 PSB Alpha fronts and 1 PSB Alpha Center. What subwoofer should I look at getting? I am going to have to wait until boxing day most likely(here in Canada) but what are some of the better ones. Pricepoint would be something about $500 or less. |

Thats says alot, because to get any kind of good low frequency response in a room as big and designed like that one is impressive.

http://forums.av123.com/showthread.php?t=42105 As big daddy says, "get the biggest and baddest sub you can buy" And if you dont want to wait til the 22nd they have some going for about 600 shipped right now. This sub was designed by Mark Seaton, a renowned subwoofer guru, they have had some amp issues but that has been resolved. Check out craigsub rankings on this sub on AVS forum, It held its on with subs over three times its price in music and home theater. |

Are you sure it’s blown? It might only be the amp that shot away? Then again it might only be the sub that got done in? Then again it might be both, in which case its full replacement.
Undone the sub from the box and test it on different amp, real easy task to do. This will determine whether the sub bass driver is, damaged or not. Also hook up a different speaker to the wire terminals on the subs amp to see if, it will play any pink noise or sine wave tone without distortion or a popping like or distance sound, if that’s the case the amp is totally, knackered in! Don’t assume its all blown without testing it, this would make it easy for you in terms of cost. It might only cost you a few bob or two to get a simple new part to get it back up and running. Merry Christmas ![]() |

JBL - Thanks for the reply.
Well the thing is I don't even need to have a source and it is seems blown. If I just plug it in the wall and turn it on(no wire hooked up) and it is in 'standby mode' it makes pulses over and over... (bass sounds). The funny thing is that when it goes into active mode it seems to work fine but all of a sudden it will make extremely loud crackle sound and go out of range(top out) and come back again... it could have been just because the movie only needed it at that time and it would make that sound anytime it was needed... but not sure. |

Well I want to put it in the corner behind my tv(sort of an odd shaped room)...
It is the sound produced from it might over power everything else. I was looking at the PARADIGM - PDR10 V4 or DSP3100. This MFW scares me to blow the room away. |

A small subwoofer can put out more bass turned up over a larger subwoofer turned down. It's all about how you calibrate your system. The MFW-15 would NOT overpower your speakers, likely even if you turned it all the way up for whatever reason. If you have everything calibrated to 75dB, nothing will be overpowering.

You are going to be glad it died, as I'm sure whatever sub you end up with will put your old one to shame. I recently upgraded my 8" 100 watt Boston Acoustics downfiring subwoofer with a 10" 200 watt MartinLogan Dynamo and I am veeeeeeeeeeeery pleased with it, best upgrade to my HT by a landslide. It's fairly small but it packs a lot of power.

uhh..why behind the tv if you current blown subwoofer use to sit on the side of your tv with video game stacked on top of it?....wouldn't want the bass bouncing off the back my tv concealed away.. its good to have in a near open area IMO. |
