Default My LCD Vizio HDTV keep switching from 1080i to 720p?

Well, I been having this problem for a while, everytime I turn off my Blu-Ray player It automatically switches to 720p after I went to the menu of my TV and put It on 1080i myself. My TV does not support 1080p If yall were wondering why I was using 1080i. But when It's on 720p I don't see any difference as If It was on 1080i, but Is It true that 1080 looks better than 720? I forgot to mention that I have a 42 Inch LCD Vizio HDTV, and It seems like there would be somewhere on the menu where you could permantley put It on 1080i without switching from 720p to 1080i everytime I watch a Blu-Ray movie. This has been annoying me for a while, and If anyone knows the problem or solution to this I appreciate It alot. Thanks!

This would most likely be controlled by your player. Check the video output settings on the player to see if you can specify the output resolution, otherwise it will automatically detect what to send to you televions(which appears to be 720p).

Hi Here's my understanding, your Hi Def tv will switch resolutions depending on input signal. If you have sat or cable you should see it switch from 480I on analog stations to a higher resolution such as 720P or 1080I on hidef content.

I have my LCD hooked to my PC so I always run at 1080 P and even low quality stuff looks great.

As far as 1080I vs 720P 720P is better, The "I" in 1080 I means every other line is blank so 1080I is equivalent to 540P.

The last LCD I had would only go as high as 1080I and I can certainly tell a difference between 1080I and 1080P but I do all my viewing through a pc environment and In my opinion a good PC video card does a better job than the Cable or sat boxes. If only everything looked like Blu-ray lol.

Hope this helps.

yep, it depends on what in being input to your TV, if the HD cable or sat is feeding your TV a 720p picture from say ABC or ESPN, then your TV will say 720p, and CBS or NBC and many other will output HD transmissions as 1080i because it is easier and cheaper to do, therefore your TV will say it is displaying 1080i.
