Default Sunfire Cinema Grand..thoughts?

Found a seller with a Sunfire Cinema Grand 200w x 5 channels. Asking 800$. Anyone have any experience with these? At 800$ I could pick up an Emotiva 7channel beast...new I might add.

Just wondering if anyone has heard or has any thoughts on them. From whatever reviews I've read "reference" always comes up and more power than needed Is it worth the price of 800$ on the used market?

I've heard through the grapevine that Emotiva was actually an OEM (original equipment manufacturer) for Sunfire. So take that for what it's worth.

How old is this Sunfire? Do you personally know the seller?

I tend to factor in a lot of variables when purchasing used. And at this point in time, where the XPA-5 is on sale for $699, I"d take the brand new Emo over the Sunfire. If the prices were the same, and I knew and trusted the seller, I'd probably take the Sunfire though.

I haven't heard either amp, so there might be some sonic differences that would influence your decision. Either one would be a good choice.

Don't know the seller. amp should be circa 2000-2001. Landed costs after shipping and duties and everything else a UPA-7 comes out to 821$ US.

What speakers do you have? What % of movies/music do you listen to?

I wouldn't be too keen on purchasing a 10 year old amp, when there are newer options available at nearly the same price. Does the seller list why he is selling?

Hey thanks for the replies Drew...the amp is sold ... seller just notified me. Makes my decision so much easier :-).

I'm running Paradigm Monitor 9s up front
Paradigm CC 290 Center
Mini Monitors in the rear and Axiom Qs8s for my surrounds.
Topped off by a lovely 12" velodyne sub.

You might look at the AVS forum for some more insights. I think their movie reviewer Ralph Potts is using the Sunfire amps in his setup.
I have purchased several used amplifiers (Berning EA230, PS Audio 200c) and have not had problems. The Berning needed repairs but the seller was up front with me and repair cost were easy to afford. The seller was a trusted source. Return options may be something to consider as well when buying used or new.
Good luck with your shopping.

Disregard since the Sunfire is sold.
