Default Sony 52 V4100 vs 52V5100

Any owners willing to contribute on their sets perform?

What are exactly the difference, other than huge price difference

thanks

OR.

For a MAX $2000 budget, what would you choose? must be 50" or above in size.

You have a nice enough TV already, PNF - why not look into upgrading the sound aspect?

Pretty much the v5100 is a repackaged W4100. It has 120hz and motionflow this year with the v5100 where last year, v4100, it had 60hz with a lesser version of motionflow. However, the motion enhancer this year seems a little better than last comparing it to the w4100 and z4100.

PNF If I were you just stick with the tv you have because if I am correct thats the XBR4 you have right? As for the V4100 and the V5100 the only difference is the V series didnt have the motion enhancer that the new V5100 series has and thats the 120hz. I currently have the KDL 46V4100and right now I wouldnt give it up for anything besides maybe a 52inch version of it but I will have to wait a little while longer for that. But as maygit said its just a repackaged version of the V4100 except for the 120hz motion enhancer which the V series didnt have.

Yeah...damn dude thats a sweet TV [the one you have] and its an XBR isnt it? I would stick with it if I had it. I would pick the XBR series over any of the L/V/W/Z series any day!

oh, no no~~

I noticed that it is 60 vs 120 Hz, was wondering if anyone has a set of V5100 and see how they like it.

I am looking for a friend, who has a $2000 tax in budget (so, maybe $1800 before tax or before shipping).

I have my eyes set on the V5100 right now, until I hear other members who have other recommendations.

I know many people would also recommend Samsung, but we're both not korean brand fans... despite their recent vast improvement..

Thanks. I love my XBR4. It is a little old in comparison to those who have XBR 6,7,8 or even 9s soon, but oh well, technology, eh?

The best price I have found is $1799 for a 52 V5100!! (free shipping)

So, You're pretty satisfied with V4100 then? (even with your BD players, and quality)

because V4100 is about $1400 vs V5100 $1800... $400 is quite a bit, for a 52".

we have the 52v5100 where i work, and the big thing I can tell you is the black levesl are excellent on this set. The motion flow is pretty smooth even on high. The only complaint is the location of the majority of the hdmi inputs is on the side of the tv. Their is a usb port now for photos and music. Speakers are also pretty aggressive. Off axis viewing is also very impressive as well as blu ray play back. good set overall.

So your just looking for idea's for a friend? The V5100 is very nice indeed. The Panny G10 is $1,500 before taxes & is a very good set at an incredible price. Also the Pioneer (Made in Japan & USA ) 5020 is $2,000 at Best Buy before tax & is the best display for $2,000 money can buy. Both of those are 50" Plasmas. If you need an LCD/LED Sony & Sammy make the best IMHO. I had a Sony 52" XBR5 & loved it. I think the XBR4/5 were the best looking (panel wise) LCD's made to date.

PNF,

I am very satisfied with my 46V4100 right now. But I have the itch to move up to the 5100 series. Why? Well it's a new model and they have the Bravia 2 engine which to me makes a better overall picture then my tv has. But for now my tv is very nice and delivers great PQ when it comes to HD movies on Comcast and Blu ray. But again I have the itch to move up but whether I do that or not remains to be seen, depends on how things go financial wise. I have to be smart in that department. I may just keep my tv and build on my surround sound system instead.

Good choice PNF but still I wouldnt get rid of your XBR4. I did some checking and the V5100 series is just an upgrade of my 46V4100 series. The S5100 series believe it or not are getting some good reviews and I didnt think I would see that happening being that they are Sony's entry level tv's as they say. Maybe its the price? I dont know. I was thinking of upgrading like I had said but as it stands right now I think I will stay with what I have. There is just nothing mind blowing out there in the HD tv market that makes me want to upgrade plus money also factors into it as well. But if I do "upgrade" I will go with the V5100 series Sony tv's. But again good choice in the 52V5100 just keep that XBR4!!!!

oh, no no, I'm not getting rid of my XBR4. I'm helping a friend buying/searching for a TV. She doesnt know much about these eletronic stuff

I love my XBR4 and I thnk it will last me another 5 years at least before I upgrade to (maybe 60" XBR15 3D TV or something)

Thanks for all the comments/advise!

Default V4100 vs V5100

I have both sets, a 40V4100 and a 40V5100.

I wrote a small review on bestbuy.com for the 40V5100. It is below
Overall, the V4100 has much better features, better response on remote, I also noticed a click sound sometimes on the V5100 when switching from channel to channel by just plugging in the channel number. Also the V4100 switches faster from channel to channel.
It is true that the V5100 has better black, very very bright pic, the 120Hz has not really been noticed.
If you have the V5100 here are the settings I have for the V5100
backlight max
pic max
bright 75
color 60
hue r16
warm
sharpness 5
noise reduction h
advanced contrast enhancer h
gamma h
clear white h
live color h
cine motion a1
motion flow standard or high

-------------

KDL-40V5100 has a very nice picture, really nice. 12/26/2009

What's great about it: Picture (chose over Samsung), remote
What's not so great: Sound, no PIP, no TV Guide, no pic Freeze (when compared to older model V4100)

"Bought the 100Hz KDL-40V5100 today as a second set and compared it at home to my 1 1/2 year old 60Hz KDL-40V4100 (tested side by side on ANTENNA mode).

Missing: PIP (my old KDL-40V4100 has it)
Missing: TV Guide (my old KDL-40V4100 has it)
Missing: Good sound system (my old KDL-40V4100 has it)
Missing: Pic FREEZE (my old KDL-40V1400 has it)
Both TVs have same remote but again the new KDL-40V5100 is missing 3 buttons due to a little different menu.
Both TVs look the same (on/off channel/audio buttons on the V5100 are not on top, but on the side).
My old V1400 has a very good pic but this KDL-40V5100 has a better picture (contrast) although both display same colors - equally good picture wise to SAMSUNG LN40B630 and LN40B650 based on watching all 3 TVs at the store.
I went with the SONY as I have bought them for years and years. Price was around $879 before tax. Have never gooten an extended warranty.
If you are looking for a very good pic, then this TV has it. And it is a SONY.

Please also see cnet dot com review on this TV: "commendable picture quality"

As I had a problem at a different store returning an item, I really appreciate BestBuy's return policy."

PNF,

I sold my V4100 awhile ago and now own the upgrade (as I call it) 46V5100 and am very happy with it being it has all the features I want. But if I had the cash would upgrade to the 52inch version? Sure I would but theres no longer any need for it because I am now shifting my sights to a new and improved surround sound system to match up with my tv and Blu ray player. Was I happy with my 46V4100 back then though? Yes and no. I wanted a set with 120hz and it didnt have that but the PQ on the 46V4100 was very good so I was somewhat happy. Dont even ask me why I went with the 52S5100 because I am still scratching my head over that decison.

Thank god tax time is here!!!
