Default Paradigm Rocks!

Well I had to post it some where. I switched to an Infinity beta system to a Paradigm system with moniter 9, 470cc, and adp 370 and a ps 1000, all V1.4 what a diference. No more infinity for me.

sounds very nice. was considering them when i purchased my current system. i ended up with b&w instead. i personally liked the sound more. but, i am considering paradigm for my next upgrade.

I wish I had the money for their studio series. Never heard of b&w. I Think alot of the speakers depend on the amp driving them too. I think I am goinng to get an Athiem amp to push the speakers, nice clean and cheap.

http://www.bwspeakers.com/

there you go.

currently running the 602s, cc6 center, 601 rears with a m&k sub (can't remember the model)

i agree, the amp makes a huge difference. you can have an amp rated at 100 watts but if it aint clean, it will sound terrible. i do like the anthem equipment a lot. i demoed an amp a few months back and enjoyed it, just don't have the money

Default Ah for the day....

when B&O made both technically fantastic and fantastic looking components.

I remember a day way back when ... in the mid 70s ... when I went into a sound room out fitted with a top end B&O set. With the music playing and me sitting near the center of the room with my eyes closed I could not locate the speakers. It was a forerunner of the current 7.1 systems (IIRC it was 7.2 or 9.2). The sound was pervasive in the room and the speakers effectively disappeared.

Since that time B&O has decided to make visually pretty systems that are technically marginal. Oh well.

It's comforting to know that several other companies have not let their technical capabilities slip like that.

Love the Paradigms.

I have v4s of the Monitor 11 and CC370. I'm looking to get another pair of 11s for my surrounds as I listen to a lot of SACD and DVD-A and a Servo15 v2 for my sub.

Then I'll look towards upgrading the video.

Currently use a Pioneer Elite DV45 for my SACDs and DVD-As and a Pionner VSX 1014 for my receiver.

I was thinking about getting ADP370s for surrounds, but I think adding two Monitor 11s instead would be just brilliant. I bought mine a year ago when v4 had just come out and they were CDN$1225, but they had a one day sale last week for $889 which is the normal price of the Monitor 7s, so I know if I wait I'll get them at that price again someday.

I think Paradigm's Monitor line is one of the best value/$ speaker lines there is.

shadow, just read this again and realized you were refering to b&o.

i assume you are speaking of bang and olufsen. i am referring to bowers and wilkins. just making sure we are talking about the same product.

Yeah B&O definitely slacked off on the quality, but it sure does look cool. Good luck finding the "Open" button.

B&W certainly have not slacked off at all, still making great speakers.

Infinity lost it when they were bought out, now there are mainstream Best Buy type speakers. I remember an episode of MTV cribs where Carlos Anthony, I think, was showing off his living room and his awesome surround sound - it was Infinity Modulus. Not a bad product, but not worth showing off about. I guess we know where he shops.

Infinity back in the day, the IRS series, were the ultimate speakers. I speak particularly of the incredible Infinity Reference Series V. I would choose those in mint condition over even the Stradivarius or ML Statement E2s.

Behold.

I just got back from my local a/v dealer who carries all Paradigm lines excpet the signature line. I walked into their HD-DVD/Toshiba 72" DLP/Paradigm Reference room and thought that they'd started carrying the signature line, but then I realised the behemoths beside the TV only had 3 woofers instead of the 4 in the Signature S8s. Then I thought I was looking at a Signature C5 infront of the TV, but upon closer inspection it had CC-670 on the price tag.

Man I have to tell you I'm more impressed with the look of the Monitor line than I am with the black look of the Studio line, but these V4s are unbelievably gorgeous. They just ooze the look of the Signature line, right down to the footplates on the Studio 100s. The only thing that's gotten smaller is the ADP470 - they're tiny! I didn't open the sides, but it looked by the size that they have speakers in them from the Millenia line.

The CC-670 has the same configuration and size as the C5. I asked the guy there who I normally buy from and he said Paradigm is doing a complete restructure of all their lines.

So far there seems to be no information on the web or otherwise about the new lines, but check your local Paradigm dealer for the new Studio line. All you'll say is wow!!

how was the studio line running price wise?

i've looked at paradigm recently and while not completely sold as an upgrade for me, it can be at the right price .

The studio line is around $1800-$3000 for frounts. I would go with the moniter series. The 9's run about $875-$999.99. Adp 370 about $575-$649 and the 470cc runs about $525-$600. They can handle some power and they are very clear. They don't have that tinny bose sound to them.

The list price is not too different than the previous Studio line. They are very efficient as well and you'll get good sound out of them with a 110-120W per channel amp. Obviously to best appreciate them you'd want a pre-amp like Anthem.

I would stay away from the 9s if you're going into hi-def sound. The 7s or the 11s for fronts would be your best bet. The 9s are not defined enough and are more about boom than clarity. The 7s and 11s are much more detailed, but don't drop much off the low end at all. Add a PW2200 (CDN$1000) or a Servo-15 v2 (CDN$2299) for the low end and you're laughing. A perfect match for Blu-ray.
If you like multi-channel music then get some 7s or 11s again for your rears and some adp-370s for the rear surrounds, as they can handle 120w.
The CC-370 is the Monitor line's centre channel, the 470 is from the Studio v3 line. You get better timbre matching from the CC-370.
I find the Monitor line to be the best bang for buck and the sound is absolutely amazing when listening to SACD or hi-rez music. Very balanced and not lacking in depth at all. The CC-370 does a great job of accurately producing voices like James Earl Jones. Nothing Bose makes comes close to the Monitor line and up from Paradigm.
Here's my front set-up; 2 Monitor 11s (CDN$1225) and 1 CC-370 (CDN$449)
- I'm waiting until next Spring to replace the TV with the Sony 60" XBR3 (presuming that's the next one to come out, with HDMI 1.3)

I just received an e-mail from Gary Takeda at Paradigm that the Monitor v5 series have just been released. If I get a spec sheet I'll attach it.

I would have to disagree with your statement about the moniter 9's. I would say the 11's are nice but not worth the extra money IMO. The 7's are nice as well. The 9's I have are very clear. not muddyness what so ever. I would say it is more of a listening preferrence. I listened to all 3 sets. I prefured the 9's out of the 3. I would go with the servo 15 but my apartment couldn't handle it. The ps 1000 was a good match for what i wanted. The 470 I have is a v4 it maybe from the studio line but the box said moniter on it.
Either way I do agree the Moniter series is the best bang for the buck IMO. The ADP 370 are amazing. Don't bother with the 170. to small, not enough depth in the sound.
