Default Thinking of keeping my blu's in a DVD folder/binder

I'm getting tired of re-organizing my blu cases, finding room on the shelf, getting movies mixed up in different cases.

So I was thinking of keeping my 150+ Blu-ray collection in a DVD binder. I never did this for my DVD's because I hated the idea of scratching my DVD's. But with the awesome coating blu-ray has, I have less fear of scratching.

Has anyone done this, recommend this, or have opinions on the matter? It seems kind of neat to quickly flip through your collection.

(Sorry if this is in the wrong forum)

how will you organize them... wont be able to do it alphabetically, unless you want re-organization to be an even greater pain in the ass

I use binders, and they work great. Every time I get a new disc (Blu or DVD), I just put it in the next available "slot" in the binders. I keep a spreadsheet of all my discs with a reference to which binder/page to find it on. This way, when I want to find a movie to watch, I simply consult the alphabetized spreadsheet, make a choice, and it tells me exactly where to find it.

This way, 600 discs take up just over 1 foot of shelf space. I'm not one to use my collection as "decoration". Thus far, I have had zero problems with any discs getting scratched by the binders. I believe the newer binders use a different material than in the "old days".

Good point, if the binder is the kind with, say, four spaces per page. It would be a nearly constant problem to keep organized alphabetically as new discs are purchased.

However, if it's the single-disc-per-page kind, no problemo. Just add pages as needed.

About a year ago I was in the same predicament. I was trying to decide whether to take the plunge.

I ended up buying a binder from staples, and ended up taking it back the same day.

The idea of "flipping" my discs, and having them physically touch / rub kinda bothered my ocd tendency. As well, I felt that I was receiving less value from my movie purchases...as if I was only purchasing the disc, not the case and artwork.

Just to add, if you are finding it a pain to organize your movies, I find that even putting music on while you are organizing helps the process immeasurably. Plus, you can't put a value on the way they look after organizing.

Careful though, I have even went as far to only use elite cases for my movies...I threw away all my sony /disney style cases lol

Have fun deciding!

If you end up tossing the cases I will buy them. I have a bunch of cracked cases.

TERRIBLE IDEA!

Even with better coating, it's still a horrifying image to me. Not to mention, what will you do with the cases? Save them or toss them? And what if you want to sell one? Now you have no case. And you won't be able to put the discs in alphabetical order in a book, and if you wouldn't in the book, then why bother in the cases? Just start keeping them in order that you buy them, that way you don't have to move them.

To me, nothing's worse than smushing blus all together in a booklet

If you want to use binders, that's great...... it's certainly a good way to condense a collection (and be able to browse them while sitting on the sofa for instance, because sometimes it takes a lot of time to find the perfect movie)

But seriously........ HOW IN THE HECK do you get movies/cases mixed up?????
I take a movie out of the case when I want to watch it.... and put it back in the case after I remove it from the player....

When I moved down to the other end of my country, I put all my DVDs in big folders... ended up regretted it as a lot ended up scratched (even if the case was advertised as 'scratch resistant'). I ended up getting my folks to box up all the cases and send them down to me so I could put them back in.

Definitely do not go for a binder/sleeve/folder.

I can understand your comment about not wanting to re-organise them, I used to have that problem when I would run out of room on one shelf, i would have to move everything just to put one more case in. But then I just stopped trying to organize them lol, now they just go wherever they fit.

I had to put my DVD collection in binders. I have over 3,000 titles (7,000+ discs). I have 42 binders total. My BD cases are small and compact enough that I don't have to binder them thank God!!

I used to have all of my CD's in a wallet, but I took them out and put them back in their original jewel cases.

I was going to do the same with my BD's, but I figured that I rather have them in their original cases so I can look at the artwork.

My only problem now is finding a new rack since I'm on my last shelf.

I did all kinds of stuff with my DVDs but now I just take the stuff in whatever packaging I can get it and put it right on the shelf.

Most of the "tweaking" including printing custom covers or changing the cases was just wasted time and energy.

Any one have any recommendations for DVD binders?

I bought some leather bound ones at best buy for old games (PS1/PS2/Xbox), that have the sleeve for the booklet on one side and 2 disc slots on the other side.

I'd like to do this for a portion of my DVD's, possibly all if it works out. Only problem is, you loose the artwork if you binder them.

If you decide to binder your blus, I suggest you store the cases and artwork somewhere. I am pretty sure you will regret it after several months and will be able to go back to the cases.

On the other hand, if you want to do this with DVD's , I am all for it. The resell value of a DVD is next to sh!t and chances are you will rarely take them out of the binder.
