Help With Comcast Hd Setup - Blu-ray Forum

hey i need some help or info on picture quality with my comcast HD setup... so i just got comcast HD and the HD box doesnt have a HDMI output port.. it has the basic video cable, s-video, component, and DVI.. well i connected it with the component cable(3video, 2 audio). but im wondering if im getting true HD with those wires.. yes the HD channels are HD ive been watching them, but would it be better to get a DVI to HDMI cable and swap out the component cables? i just want the best picture quality, and from wut ive learned is HDMI is better the component..

I'm also in the same situation and have thought about calling Comcast to upgrade my box. But when I'm watching the HD channels, they look good except for the compression artifacting, which I presume is due to maxing out the amount of datable over the cable.

You ARE getting hd even if your using the component cables. I've used both component and dvi-hdmi cables with my comcast cable box and the difference isn't that big.

You'll get that artifacting with both component and hdmi cables. Comcast sucks like that.

yeah i would try to contact comcast but there idiots... i asked if the box came with hdmi cables or do i need to supply one they said it comes with no wire. so i ordered 2 more cables since i already have one, and a hdmi switcher so i can have my ps3 and the comcast running.. turns out they gave me a big bag full of every cables invented lol except the hdmi and dvi...then i contacted comcast and asked if it was a HD box since there was no hdmi output they said it wasnt an HD box then 5 mins later they said it was. soo there retarded

Take it back and get the right box. You should have an office in your location where you can exchange/pickup/get new boxes. Specifically ask for HDMI - when they hand you the box, check it before you leave. Its on the right hand side next to the Ethernet/USB ports (near the bottom).

Our local office asks us whether we want HDMI or DVI whenever we pick them up. I have always picked HDMI. I have always verified that.

I like HDMI the most because well - its 1 cable that does audio and video. Instead of 4 cables for component + sound.

JMO.

well, with cable, no station outputs in 1080p anyways...only 720p and 1080i broadcasts, so it doesnt really matter as far as pic quality between dvi and component. Should be the same. And you will most likely have to run an optical cable for both too, so again, it doesnt matter too much.

Dont sweat it. (you can even keep the hdmi port free for another device)

Should I use HDMI (or DVI) or Component Cables? Answer here...

...but if youre still looking for an HDMI-DVI cable
