Cool Disapointment Panasonic TC-P65S1

I just bought this TV yesterday and I am not happy with the picture quality through ATT Uverse cable. I am receiving the HD signal. My 42" Samsung LCD looks better.
What settings should it have for now? The picture is fuzzy and the letters have a shadow to the right.
I do not have the HMDI cables yet. Should that matter?

This is a set someone returned because they said it was to big.
We sit 13 feet away.
