Default 46A950 LED - Should I get it??

Ok so my boss in Magnolia HT is trying to get rid of our Samsung 46A950 backlit LED display since it got discontinued 6 months ago. I can have it for $700 and its in really good shape (used to sell for close to $3000!!!)...but there's also a 50PZ850 Panny that I might be able to get for the same price... hmmm...
I'm selling my 51" Sony projo to help pay for one of those.

both TVs are so sweet, pisses me off

what do you guys think?

That's a tough call. Both are very good sets, but I think that the Sammy has a slight edge in black level...maybe...they're pretty close from what I remember when I viewed them in the same room. Both are pretty accurate color wise.

The only trade-offs I see is that the Sammy is smaller, and off-axis viewing is pretty bad on it. You need to be pretty much dead center to view this set at its peak, and once you move over to the side slightly the picture starts to washout kind of bad. This is very noticeable with dim or dark room viewing.

For those two reasons alone my pick would be the Panny, but both are good values at such a low price. For $700 either would be a good choice especially since you will be offsetting the cost with money from the sale of your current set. Its not like there are any other sets at this price that are better than either of these.

the sammy's black levels are gorgeous,im just worried that after having a 51" for 5 years stepping down to a 46" might be a little weird...hmm

Yeah, I personally don't like the idea of dropping down in size, but its not going to be a huge drop should you go with the Sammy. The off-axis thing may not be a big deal to you either since you already have a projection and it won't be any worse in that regard. You will be getting a major picture upgrade no matter which one you go with.

The B8500 replaces this series and they made it even better than the already excellent A950.

the new B8500 series basically has some new blur and judder settings (and its also 240Hz and accoring so samsung its true 240 not just backlight dimmed 240 like some cheaper tvs). you now have the option to go to Custom and adjust the blur reducer (for video based sources) and the judder (for film based sources). so for instance on movies now i adjust the blur to "0" and the judder to "2 or 3" that way i dont get that soap opera look when i watch film. i noticed that they improved the vewing angle a little bit and the tv is also thinner. But honestly-if u put the A950 and the B8500 side by side the difference isnt worth the extra $$$...After all im getting a TV that used to be $3299 for $700 bucks so im pretty happy. plus im gonna add the black tie protection so one day i might get that money backtowards a newer model (if something were to go wrong with it...or if i ever decided to plug a car battery to it and fry it to get an upgrade LOL)

SWEEEET! Got the TV last night...put on the Dark knight and Casino royale right a way and it's unbelievable. I had to turn off the 120Hz for my movie watching because I don't like that look, but tonight I'm gonna play some modern warfare 2 with the 120 on either med or high I'll take some pics soon
