Default Buying the Onkyo HT S7100 7.1 package

After BizDaddy mentioned this option to someone in another thread, I looked it up and decided this would be perfect for me. I only have to connect my blu-ray player and PS3 (for now) so the 4 HDMI input is just right for me, but since this is my first HT I have some set up questions for when I get it.

1. I know I should get new speaker wire, but what size? 14 or 16? And what is really the difference?

2. I'm guessing this system can be upgraded so if I want new speakers eventually, I can do that with this system, correct?

3. I know to give the sub alot of space because people said it heats up, should I also give the receiver alot of space too? I see alot of pics on here where people just pile stuff on top of their receiver, does this cause any issues or is it fine?

4. Does the sub connect to the receiver via HDMI or a different cable?

5. How far away should I put the front main speaker from the TV and other items? Do they get any interference from each other or are they good wherever?

Thanks for the answers, excited to be ordering this beast soon.
(And for the space and price I'm considering, this is ideal for me so please don't say "well get this instead it's only 2 grand!" haha, because I'm not looking in that range).

Thanks.

Me again Hope I can help here.

1: The difference really depends on how long you run the wires. 14 should be plenty maybe 12 for the back speakers.

2: Speakers are easily upgradeable.

3: You can check how I have my reciever in my gallery and thats plenty of air for mine. I never had any heating issues.

4: It comes with the cable, its an RCA type cable.

5: Due to space limitations in my apartment I have my center speaker right in front of the tv, never had any issues.

16 should be fine, but if they're the same price the 14 won't hurt.

I believe this model is based on the TX-SR606. This is the best receiver ever made ( see sig), so you will be able to switch out the speakers just fine.

The receiver will get a bit warm, so you need to have at least several inches of room on all sides, especially if you don't have a fan in your cabinet.

No HDMI; a subwoofer (RCA) cable is what you need.

Have the fronts far enough apart so you can tell distinguish the sound of one from the other. That's the point of surround sound, so you can tell left, right, front, rear. It usually works fine if you have the fronts within a few feet of either side of your TV.[/QUOTE]

Love this reciever. The receiver was the reason I bought this system. I paid about the same for the total package than I would have if I just bought the reciever by itself. I figured I would give the speakers a go and they did not disapoint. Just ask the wifey when Im cranking these at midnight during my mw2 fix lol She just shouts mute!! lol
