Default Best method for firmware updates?

Which is the best method to use to update your bd player with firmware updates? CD? Ethernet? USB?

I contacted Oppo and asked them a few months back, they said it's best to use the CD or USB method because the Ethernet method doesn't always work with beta firmware.

Me personally I always used the cd method. But my cd player doesn't work anymore on my computer, so I have a USB thumb I will use to unzip the file. The USB thumb I have is 1 GB. Is that plenty enough to use for firmware updates?

I use the ethernet connection that's already connected to my player. Simple, easy, never had an issue.

My computer is in another room, so I download the firmware and store it on an 8GB Kingston thumb drive. Has worked flawlessly so far!

Is a 1gb USB stick enough space to carry firmware?

ethernet is the best way to get public released firmware updates from oppo. you can never get beta because, it's beta and they want you to download it by choice and not automatically by mistake. also, because it beta it's in a testing phase and you would become the lab rat and they don't want the general population becoming that. I have two oppo players, for the actual release firmware, nothing is better and simpler than ethernet or wi-fi as the player will automatically let you know when an actual release is available. for beta firmware, use a usb thumbdrive instead of a cd or dvd; you don't have to create an image with a thumbdrive.

also, be leary of loading beta firmware because it has the potential of "goofing" things up because it's in it's trial period, best to just wait for the actual firmware. yes a 1gb memory stick is more than enough for firmware (in most instances unless otherwise noted) turn your oppo on to automatic updates and you wil be fine.

just realised you have a pio blu player, not sure what to tell you to do on updating them, the info i gave was for oppo because in your intitial post you mentioned them by name. why did you not contact pio?
hope that helped.

Oppo told me in general the best way for firmware updates is with either CD or USB. Most people so far on here stated they use the CD method and never had a problem. You'll have to contact Oppo, I hope you do, maybe they might give you a different answer, I'm curious to know.

Last fall before I had a bd player I thought about buying the Oppo and contacted them with some questions. I decided to go with the Pioneer because the Pioneer dealer that bent over backwards to get me my Pio Kuro plasma was selling Pio bd players too and I wanted to stay loyal to their business. The company is Natural Sound in Massachusetts, a high end boutique store that is a licensed authorized Pioneer dealer, the owner and his staff made sure to walk me through the process of getting me the tv with free delivery. http://www.natural-sound.com/

I always used the CD method to update my bd player, my CD drive on my computer doesn't work now, I will use the USB method but not familiar with it or I can try the Ethernet way. Do I connect the bd player to the router or modem?

i'm sure you have more than one thing you connect to the internet with so you either already have a router or a hub or something that connects directly to the modem before any devices do so that you may use more than one device. so connect your bd player to the router, set up the player to get an ip address assigned to it (DHCP enabled) give it a minute or so then check it to see that an address has been provided for it and your good to go. somewhere in the menu should state either check for update (manually) or check for update automatically; choose which one is best for you. follow any onscreen instructions and you should be good to go.
hope this helped.

now, get going on that gallery so I can see that gear of yours! Oh and feel free to check out my gallery and rate & comment on it too.

keep us in the loop about how your player firmware updating goes!
