Question Black Screen and Freezing problems! Help!

When I'm watching a movie the screen will black out for like 5 or 10 seconds and then come back on. It doesn't do it alot but once in awhile. It happened three times already, and I had a movie freeze on me too. I have a Magnavox blu ray player, and a HDMI cable hooked up to my LG HDtv. I'm not sure what the problem is. I have a PS3, and it never happened on that, but then again I didn't use my HDMI cable on that, I just used standard cables. Please help, I don't know what the problem is. It's bothering me

When was the last time you did a firmware update on your player

I'm not sure how capable of reading it is as I haven't tried it myself, but check the manual, if you still have it and read the section on the SD Card, also take a look at the SD Card setup in setup. Notice how it has the same options that a 2.0 compatible player would have. Erase BD Data and or Initialize the SD Card. Anyway Just an interesting observation that I'd throw out there.

Okay this is the last post I read. So I should erase the SD card???

Your player is made by Funai, follow the link to the site and look for your player there, they have the firmware updates there

They don't have my model. Now I know not to buy anything from Funai or Walmart again. I working on getting a Sony or LG blu ray player. I would use my PS3 but I like that for games. I know it's not my LG HDtv. And I'm not sure if it's my HDMI cable?

Well you have nothing to loose at this point, use the HDMI cable from the PS3 and see what happens..

Funai is coming out with the firmware upgrade to this player. Firmware Ver. 1.004 for the player. I think the player currently has the firmware ver. 1.003. Right now, it is not posted on the site. Go to http://www.funaiservice.com/information/firmware.cfm. Contact their customer support by email. They will probably give you a better time frame. Also, do you remember what movies you were having issues with? Were they Blu-ray discs or DVDs. Keep in mind; make sure the discs did not have scratches or discs may have been dirty with like fringer prints too you never know.

The movies it happened with are Hellraiser (froze for 15 seconds), Drag Me to Hell(black out for 5 seconds) and Children of the Corn (black out for 5 seconds) They were Blu Rays. I watched a dvd already with the blu ray, but it didn't do nothing wrong. Yeah the discs are fine too. Thanks for the help too. I will check out the website.

I sent them my email and my problem. I hope they bring an update too. Do you think it's the player, or could it be the hd cable? I know it's not the disc or the TV for a fact.

It only happens during playback. It loads fine, and the menu is fine too.

Your player is obviously possessed because of the movies you watch.

Does it happen at different points in each movie or does it happen at the beginning? Almost sounds like it has trouble locking onto the signal. Can you connect the player with component cables instead of HDMI?

LOL. It's okay everybody I found the problem. It was the HD cable. I used it on my ps3 and it did the same thing, it blacked out. I took it back and got another one (exchange for the same brand). I took it home and it worked fine. I just hope it doesn't do the same thing like the other one I had. I'm glad it's not the blu ray player.
