Default 3D worth it?

Just curious who on these forums will be ready, and willing to buy all new eqiupment for 3D? I know I wont be converting anytime soon, not only for financial reasons but for the fact that I find 3D cheesy and dont think you should have to have 3D to enjoy a movie...Again though who here will be ready and willing to buy all new equipment?

Buying one of the 2010 Bravia TV's this summer (LX900).

I have been an owner of Nvidia 3D vision on PC since last summer and I enjoy gaming with that. This summer I will also be enjoying Blu-ray movies and PS3 games in 3D going forward. It's the next step imho.

But is it really worth buying all new equipment? Isnt a quality movie still a quality movie without 3D?

LMAO, what do you mean "maybe one day" , haven't we always been enjoying movies since day one with vcr's to present day blu-ray players WITHOUT 3D ! I myself would enjoy being able to watch 3D movies at home. For you people who don't want 3D, then it is as easy as NOT buying it ! Trust me, movies will NEVER be released in 3D format ONLY, you will always be able to buy straight forward blu-ray's. If the movie is released in theatres only in 3D, I'm sure the blu-ray will also have a 2D version on it. I seen posts that truly bash the 3D format (I'm not saying this post), people, get over it , just buy the 2D verson .

I bought into Blu-ray almost as soon as it came out. That will not be happening with 3-D for me. The first couple of generations of tech for it are going to be very poor, I suspect.

Well it adds to the experience.
Personally I feel that 3D does quite more to make the experience immersive than surround sound (though of course I'm going for both) but I don't see people question the latter. 3D really stimulates all my senses as an observer, it's very appealing.

Edit: Also, for 3D there really isn't that much extra equipment at all if you're in the market for a new TV. This is the first year where we see 3D tv's from most companies. In two years time your new TV purchase will very likely just have the capability even if you desire it or not. If you happen to have a PS3 you just need to spend 5min updating the firmware. I expect in two years time that the great majority of new BD players will all have 3D from the get-go. You will end up getting the required tech, only extra purchase will be glasses if not included. Surround sound will always be a significant extra addition in comparison.

Big waste of time, i can't see this taking off plus i don't want to sit in my home with glasses on watching tv, i think it's going to lead to eye problems, headaches and seizers and more.

No, it's not.

If you don't want it - you still pay for it.

What's up with that. Do you think that people who don't want what you want, should subsidize it for you?

I buy a disc, with a 2D and 3D film on the same disc, do you think the 2D watcher needs to pay for 3D production?

I'm also wondering if they're going to change any more Blu standards, orphaning the current user base.

That will not happen. Every 3-D player will be backward compatible. The manufacturers and studios know there would be a revolt by the users if they did any move like that. The introduction of 3-D is mostly about increasing the demand for future equipment upgrades, but it will be mostly incremental in degree. View it as a cool but unnecessary feature that future players will come equipped with as a selling point.

I think you're right about backwards 2D compatibility. What I'm concerned about is what's already been announced - the change to the HDMI standard, and introduction of "features" and products that make the current install base useless for future releases and feature sets. What happens to all these BD-Live, Netflix/Blockbuster, and broadcast tie-ins?

Not that I give a hoot about BD-Live...

I get really bad headaches 10 minutes into the theme parks 3D shows, not sure how people watch an almost 3 hours movie on it.

No, I am not buying a migraine TV anytime soon.

you want to know if 3D-HDTV in the home is "worth it" when nobody has it, and nobody knows the price it will be????

Is spending $1,000 for the Mac "Tablet" "Worth it"????

The way I figure - I hope 3D looks good on a 24/46/50 inch TV and in a few years (maybe 4) when I'm on the market - I'd love to have 3D.

I think I'd like it for pixar and the new Star Wars Clone wars - the CGI animation.

I can't wait to see a DEMO of this.

I'll buy it when I'm in the market for a new player, not before. I want it, but I can cope with waiting.

Oh nooooooooo! I'm already being "forced" to pay for the production of Digital Copy and BD-Live, which I don't use! OUTRAGEOUS!

Time for pitchforks and torches!

Oh wait, never mind... turns out that I don't have to buy any blu-ray title or product that I don't want. So, I guess I won't be paying a markup on any 3D titles that I can't use any time soon. Good thing I can cope with that, and not get fried over the fact that someone else has the newest cool gadget which I'm not in the market for yet.
