This is going to sound really dumb but I've had my Sony 52XBR4 for a few years and just discovered x.v. color. I didn't realize it was off on my LCD. Is it a major difference? Is it really stupid to have had it off? Thanks JC

If I am not mistaken, x.v. color is pretty much useless right now. Your TV has to support it, your BD player has to, the HDMI cable has to, and the BD disc has to support it. A few months ago I remember reading that there are no BD's currently that support it.

That explains it. I wondered why my TV has that setting and it made no visible difference to my eyes.

That's dumb why does Sony bother with it then? Why does my LCD even have it? Do any other LCD manufacturers have it in their LCDs? JC

By the way if we could take advantage of it would it make a huge difference? JC

The HDMI cable only supports electricity.
![]() But you're right, everything else has to support it. As for Bluray, its not in the spec so we are very unlikely to ever see it in use for movies. some Camcorders support it, but would it benefit? Ive never seen it in use so I cannot say. ![]() ![]() |

Hello
Regarding these two remarkable technologies; it is quite wise to have them available on all video components; especially the display itself. Without getting into the technologies, the content must be encoded into them for them to be advantageous to the viewer, and the display and source must support it; it is limited to HDMI as well, and not available on component. Blu-ray l In time, which originally was to have been 2008, it will be available on Blu-ray. Camcorders l Many already support it, so you can immediately benefit, if you use an high quality camcorder with it and playback your content on your home display; it really is extremely compelling. Broadcast Television l It will be available in broadcast as well, just needs to be encoded before broadcast, as 3D. It is coming, just sidetracked while the industry focuses on 3D instead. It's inevitable that someday, the industry will focus on the quality of HDTV Picture Quality, and not such things as 3D, which has been a failed attempt since about 1950, when I first viewed it myself in movie theaters. I hope that this is helpful, and will try to expand on it as time permits. Thank You Last edited by jibucha; 01-17-2010 at 05:51 PM. Reason: new information |
