These are a few titles that I can definitely see being double dipped in the near future, do you guys agree?
Terminator 2 - Next year is the 20th Anniversary of the movie, can you really imagine them not releasing an Anniversary edition for one of the most re-released titles ever? The Shining - This year marks the 30th Anniversary of the movie so I could definitely see an anniversary digibook release for this movie later this year, around Halloween would be a great guess. Black Hawk Down - I can definitely see a re-release of this as I could see Sony doing what they did with the re-release of Casino Royale and adding Dolby TrueHD and also adding the extended cut of the film and all the special features from that awesome 3 disc set that came out on sdvd. Maybe even a new video transfer with MPEG-4 AVC as oppossed to the older MPEG-2 it was released with. 2012 is also the 10th anniversary of the BHD so not sure if they would wait till then or possibly release this sooner. I'd double dip all three of those above movies. Last edited by bone crusher; 01-12-2010 at 04:14 PM. |

I doubt that "The Shining" will be double-dipped; it's already been remastered (and I think the BD looks gorgeous!) and it has the extras from the 2-disc special edition DVD (which in itself is a double-dip of the original DVD that's been around for years and years). And it's the longer cut. If they do anything to it, they might put out the shorter theatrical cut, and maybe scrounge up more extras. I think it'd be years before "The Shining" is double-dipped, if at all.
"Terminator 2" is possible, especially since there were at least three or four different DVD versions (and one BD before the SkyNet edition). A new "T2" BD could have even more extras (possibly ported from the Ultimate Edition and Extreme Edition DVDs), and it could be remastered further (though I think the SkyNet Edition looks really good). "Black Hawk Down" I'd say is possible. The existing BD transfer looks/sounds awesome, but they could always port over all the extras from the 3-disc DVD, and possibly add in the extended cut. On their anniversaries, though, I could foresee all these movies getting different packaging. Last edited by Al_The_Strange; 01-12-2010 at 04:37 PM. Reason: Forgot about the anniverssary thing |

I highly doubt T2 will get a re-release so shortly after the Skynet edition. Yes, it's possibly the most re-released title in home video history. But even the studio has to realize by now that there's really not much more that can, or needs to be done with it anymore.
Considering how cheap and complete the Skynet edition is already, I don't foresee consumers rushing out to replace it as soon as next year. |

They might double dip the "Avatar" Blu ray. As soon as they've sold enough, they'll release an even bigger, better version... I'm willing to bet.
![]() Gosh, I'm still mad that they lowered the price for the Casino Royale CE by $9, right after I bought it. I was like... WTF?! Only soothing factor is that I'm satisfied with what I got. |

Terminator 2 I will not double dip.
The Shining I won't even bother with because I don't own the original version and I don't like the film that much, either. Black Hawk Down would be a day-one double dip. I loved the first release, but I would like to see more extras. The transfer was perfect, so if they just add the supplements from the 3-disc DVD, it'll be a buy for me. |

I don't think any of those titles would be great candidates for rerelease. Pretty much the people that want to own those titles already do. They can all be had on the cheap.

Actually, I'd like to see Terminator 3 double dipped. All they did was port over the HD DVD version which didn't have lossless audio. Still sounds great but could probably be better with a full TrueHD or DTS-HD soundtrack. The video fell in the same catagory. Good but not great.
T2 has already been double dipped but that probably won't stop them from a third go round. Never has. Last edited by Packerfan75; 01-25-2010 at 03:09 AM. |

Only one of the three mentioned that I own is The Shining and it had better be something pretty damn special for me to rebuy it.
I have the old 4 disc set of Gone With The Wind and since most, but not all, of the bonus features in the UCE are what I have in the standard box set I won't buy it, just the single blu for me. I think the studios rerelease popular, or cult movies, with added extras, footage or what have you just to make more money as they know die hard fans of certain titles will buy every new version that comes down the pike. |
