Hey everyone,
As some of you may know, I recently sold my Onkyo TX-SR806 and purchased the TX-NR5007. I've got an itch to upgrade my speakers and sub now. I'm selling my speakers tomorrow and I have a big decision to make. Please help me choose from the following options: 1. Klipsch Package
2. Def Tech Package
I've listened to them in person a few times and regardless of what I am told, for some reason I always walk away feeling like the Klipsch sound so much better than the Def Techs with the highs and mids. Please help me make a decision as I will be buying them all tomorrow or Sunday night. Thanks. |

I'm a Klipsch fan myself and have a Klipsch Reference setup in my HT. However, of the two systems you have listed I would probably go with the Def Techs.
BUT, what I think isn't all that important. It sounds to me like you answered your own question when you say the Klipsch sounds better than the Def Techs. |

Go with what sounds best to you. Don't buy without listening to both!! I love my deftech set up which is listed in my sig at the bottom. I like you had narrowed it down to klipsch and deftech for my budget, but decided the klipsch were too bright for my taste. Happy hunting!!

Just make sure you understand that those XF-48s are powered speakers and each of them has to be plugged into the wall. I'm not trying to talk you out of them. I just want to make sure you understand they're a little different from "regular" speakers. |

Thanks a lot Steve. I think I was trying to convince myself since I would be getting 70% off the retail price. Plus my friends love Def Tech. Anyways, thanks for all of your help.

A good deal of this has to do with the fact that the Klipsch's are far more sensitive and require far less power to drive them. That, plus the horn loaded tweeters tend to add a bit more range to the upper end. I compared the Klipsch WF 35's next to the Def Tech BP 7006's and the result was the Klipsch's without question. In the end, let you own ears decide. If it sounds right to you, then it's the right choice irrespective of what anyone else thinks.

I had an all Definitive set-up and once I heard my friends Klipsch setup I've ditched Definitive for Klipsch. I just recently purchased my Klipsch speakers and for movies Klipsch cannot be beat! The Dynamics and detail that the horn loaded tweeter produces is incredible. I'm actually in the process of watching all my Blu-rays again to listen to what I missed. Klipsch all the way is my opinion.

In my opinion and this is just my opinion, with speakers its all about preferance. Klipsch does nothing for me. The harshness of that horn loaded tweeter drives me insane. I think they are great for home theater because they are very bright and dynamic, but if you listen to any music I would go with definitive. Klipsch are going to sound louder because they are very efficient speakers, but louder is not better. This just my opinion but definitive all the way if it were me. Let your ears decide your path because in the end thats all that matters.

I have heard a lot of speakers and I haven't heard many that can outdo the mythos st or sts line. Other speakers don't even compare and I'm not here knocking any brands but the st-sts are very forcefull and powerfull speakers that you don't just hear you feel. I really like the paradigm reference series but they still are not as forcefull and in your face as the st line. I'm not a fan of the older def tech line but the mythos line out does them in terms of voice quality. I heard the sts line and many others at my local listen up and they sounded phenomenal so I decided on the def techs and took em home and they sounded 30% better in my house. I didn't even need a sub for them but I just decided to get 2 of em for sh..s and giggles!

It seems like most of the people on this thread are leaning towards the Klipsch, but I would say go with the DefTechs. IMO, the 7002's are the best sounding speaker that Definitive has to offer. You're also going to get more drivers with the Definitives. They are much more power hungry than the Klipsch, so you'd need a better amp with them. I've listened to both of these speakers for quite a while. At loud volumes especially, the Defs will have much more control than the Klipsch, but that decision is up to you. The 7002 will be a very warm sound, and the Klipsch a very bright sound. Also, on the sub, the 500d is absolutely no comparison to the cube reference. No matter which speakers you choose, DEFINATELY do the cube over the 500d!!
