Default HD DVD generation 3 players on Amazon

Looks like their Gen 3 players may be coming:

Amazon:
A3 $299 1080i
A30 $399 1080p
A35 $499 1080p

I think the only reason Toshiba continues to sell a 1080i player is so they can brag more about lower prices. Problem is people that dont know any better are gonna buy it, then have to replace it on the back end one day when they get a 1080p tv.

Th BR camp really needs to get some releases going and some player price drops or this thing is gonna go on forever. Unless BD+ cant be cracked then it might be over, but Im not going to count my chickens on that.

Where did you find this? I think we might see a 2nd gen BD player drop to close to $399 by that time, and it will probably have more features than the A30. You're right that the 1080i is only there for price bragging, although I hardly hear Sony point that out. You figure they would want to make the big deal that the "cheap" HD DVD player can't even do full HD. I would think that the the A35 is the only of those three w/ features comparable to a BD player, and it's the same price.

Edit: Here's a link: http://formatwarcentral.com/

It says they'll be out on Oct 1st. Still sad, and not very reassuring for them, that they're the only manufacturer out there.

So we're already coming to "gen 3" huh? Man, they crank these pieces of junk out fast enough to try and beat the clock towards their own doom, as it were.

Midnight strikes around Christmas time, for those keeping score.

Let 'em keep cranking garbage out. Meanwhile more and more great content keeps coming out on Blu-Ray, especially in the 4th quarter of this year.

Nothing to be worried about here.

I agree, just like right now the XA2 is the only one that should be compared to the BDP1200 and the prices are right in line. Its all a pr stunt, they sell limited units for lower prices, but I think thats what Joe Blow wants.

If you put in HD-A3 at amazon it shows up for preorder.

A guy at AVS said a big announcement was coming soon and everyone thinks this is it.

Apparently they don't know they aren't going to get Disney, Fox, MGM, Sony and Lionsgate titles (not to mention a whole bunch of new indies) and won't be able to rent a Blockbuster or look for an upgrade for that player at Target.

There's a heck of a lot of ignorance in every blind HD DVD purchase now. 1080i is just the tip of the iceberg.

If BD+ is properly cracked the whole might be is over. You figure with cracked BD+ that Fox would run to release on HD DVD?

Oh well, another 90K stand-alones: Sold to the same 90K people that bought the first two generations.

That's the sad truth.

"Hey, maybe this one will actually work right."

The for sale/for trade threads at AVS and other forums speak for themselves.

I almost bought a HD-A1 for cheapo ($150) right after I got my BD-P1000, but the guy selling it told me it was a little buggy and he was selling it for a BR player. I decided against it.

I liked the line in bold here:

Want to see what your missing by watching Hot Fuzz on standard DVD? Well our man Xylon on AVSForum has posted some screenshots comparing the HD DVD to the DVD side of the Combo disc. We think if this doesn’t convince you on why you need HD DVD or Blu-ray, we suggest you make an appointment at your local optometrist ASAP.
