Default Any "Smiths" or "Morrissey" fans?

I have been listening to The Smiths and Morrissey for about 18 or 19 years, wow I'm old!
It all started with my friend in 9th grade making me a mix tape. It had tons of good stuff on it but what stood out the most by far was Morrissey.
At one time or another I have owned every single song or album from The Smiths or Morrissey solo stuff.
He is amazing and it really seems as though he is "Singing your Life"
In concert I have only seen him three times although I would love to see him play much more, it will change your life.

My dad loves The Smiths - so naturally, having had to listen to them for the past sixteen years, I've grown to like them too. I've imported their albums onto my iPod.

Just became acquainted with two The Smiths songs via the 500 Days of Summer Soundtrack. I enjoyed both of them and may peruse iTunes for more of them.

I've been getting into similar music over the last few years. So far, I've managed to get all the Cure and Joy Division stuff, most of New Order and a lot of the Smith's/Morrissey stuff too. Also, I've listened to the first Electronic (Johnny Marr, Bernard Sumner collaboration) cd from the library and just bought the Bad Lieutenant album a couple of days ago. All great stuff.

IMHO, all of the Smiths, Joy Division and Cure releases (up through Disintegration and including Join the Dots) are absoultely essential listening. It's always cool to find so much great music that one might have missed by growing up in a different era. For instance, the first Joy Division song I ever heard was at age 14 and it was Nine Inch Nails' cover of Dead Souls off the Crow soundtrack!

I have been a huge fan of the Smiths since the late 80s and a fan of Morrissey as you can see from my Avatar and screen name since his solo career. Just recently made a Trek to Foxwoods for his latest tour. First time I saw him live and I enjoyed every second of it. Nice to see other fans, sometimes I feel like I'm the only one.

What is the best album to start with for the Smiths? I have heard a few singles but do not know where to begin.

My personal favorite is "Meat is Murder" however their first, eponymously titled album is an excellent collection of tracks.

From a compilation(ish) perspective, a Hatful of Hollow is an interesting collection of earlier singles and some different versions of tracks from a few of their John Peel Sessions.

I am a big fan, I need to listen to some more of his stuff maybe a bit more critical listening because most of it has been in the car. Imo the 80's produced the best music.

Thanks for the suggestions. I usually start with an album over the greatest hits type.
