I wanted to give this thread a courtesy bump since the site review is live. A surprisingly effective movie with some pretty solid scares. Check it out!

I watched this on Shudder and really enjoyed this so I'm eager to buy a copy for myself. This film felt like walking into a haunted maze where there was a new scare/something grotesque around every corner. The scares are pretty solid which makes this movie a lot of fun. I'll also never

Picked this up at Best Buy today based on the Rotten score.
Picture quality is stylistically more or less expected for not being a big budget thing. Tons of digital grain/noise—feels over the top, even if you like grain like I do. Blacks not particularly dark and the whole movie feels like it has the brightness turned up on my calibrated LED and Panasonic 420. A fair number of lighting and overall brightness inconsistencies between shots. My biggest issue with the Blu-ray is many darker areas have a ton of digital/compression artifacting/flickering. I’d expect this in streaming, but not on a disc of basically any quality. I have no idea why the review on this site doesn’t call that out and in fact said the opposite. Feels like a really lazy transfer from Shudder. Audio quality is fine and not particularly memorable. Some good ambient surround in the tears throughout. Not much of a score or theme to speak of. As for the movie itself…Some fun dark humor. The wife/grandma is pretty well acted. The victim (avoiding spoiler here) feels like a missed casting opportunity (same goes for the Ian character), but understand this is an indie. Some creepy scenes for sure and a great premise overall. I feel like this script with some more seasoned pros and budget behind it could’ve been an instant classic, making a lot of the great ideas throughout feel much more impactful. Still a great watch for horror fans, but I’d look for a used copy or a sale. If you’re a streaming fan and have Shudder, definitely check it out. |

I watched this more as a curiosity than anything; Yannick Bisson (star of Murdoch Mysteries) has a small role in it, and I figured seeing him in a horror movie would be surreal (and it was, though not nearly as surreal as later seeing him in Another WolfCop.)
Wound up liking the whole movie more than I thought I would. |
