Default PS3 better picture then previous player??

I recently upgraded my Blu player from a Sony BDP-S300 to a Sony PS3. I swear the picture is slightly better, my wife thinks its all in my head. Does the PS3 produce a better picture than the S300??

Many people SWEAR some players produce better pictures... I tested a $99 insignia, sony 360, & my PS3 (blind test, had my wife switch them) I thought the s360 & insignia produced the best picture... I'm pretty sure it was alll in my head though.....

A different player may engage a different input memory on your display.

It's possible... Likely even.

Now,... if you assure that all the settings are the same with both players you may be able to gauge if anything is really different between them.

Calibrated display? If so, little if any difference amongst players for BD PQ.

I own both a 60gb PS3 and a slim. Having had to use the slim recently on my ISF calibrated TV. I did notice a slight difference in PQ. IMO it didn't look as good as the 60gb. ISF co-founder Kevin Miller has also stated on his website (http://www.tweaktv.com) that new ps3's have a inferior bd player than the old units.

Couldn't find any reference to this anywhere on the tweaktv website. Do you have a link?

Sorry it took me a while to dig it up. It was in the forums.

"The brand new PS3s are not nearly as good as the older ones. If you can find one of the originals they are the best for Blu-ray playback, and in fact they are exceptional." - Kevin Miller ISF Co-founder

I have the opposite opinion. I had a 60gb and got a slim. After comparing the slim had better pq. The original PS3's had faster load ups though. The slim is noticeable slower to me on loading.

Except for the failure rate of the Blu-ray drives in them.

I'm with the others who stated that there should be little noticeable difference in visual quality among Blu-ray players on a calibrated display with matched settings. Of course, there are many factors that can come into play, so that's not a universally applicable statement.
