It appears to be sold out right now, but accessories4less.com usually has the Marantz SR5003 (refurbished) for $449 with free shipping. I know that's a little over your stated budget, but IMO it's the best receiver you can get for the money. Hopefully they'll be back in stock soon.

I don't have any recommendations for a subwoofer in your price range. You might have better luck asking that question in the subwoofer forum. Or if you could possibly squeeze out another $100, the eD A2-300 always comes very highly recommended. It goes for $350 and also ships for free.

Good deal on the sub. With the receiver is it the price or because it's out of stock right now?

I have been using Pioneer recievers for a while and based on the price you gave I'll recommend the Pioneer VSX-1019AH-K.

Thumbs up Receiver

Check out the Onkyo 507 and 607 at http://www.accessories4less.com . Onkyo is known for packing a LOT of features for the money.

I would consider the Sony STR-DN1000 also, although it doesn't have pre-outs(which are nice if you ever consider an external amp) it is one of the better receivers in its class this year. you can get it for about $350-400 or so. When compared to most other receivers in its class its bench test produced better results then the Yamahas and Pioneers.

However if you plan to get into external amps down the line the Marantz would be a great buy.

I can vouch for the A2-300. I have had mine for about 2.5 years and it is awesome. The newer ones are even better.

As for the receiver, the Onkyo 607 is feature packed with 6 hdmi inputs. Also highly rated is the pioneer VSX-1019AH-K. The onkyo can probably be had for less though.

For your subwoofer budget i highly suggest the BIC F12 selling now on amazon.com only for US$255.00 free shipping price is for limity time the F12 is hard to find now i think because the companny are not making any more this sub line. I actually own the F12 im very happy with the sound and deep bump bump my whole room shaking you cannot go wrong with this bigbad boy that's really rocks

PS: The F12 have a excellent 10/10 performance for blu ray movies

I like the BIC VK-12, but it's alittle out of reach. Might take a look at the Starfire Series from Chrysalis by Velodyne. They get good marks!

As far as receiver, I'm on a Marantz/Harman Kardon kick. The H/K ebay store yields amazing deals for the AVR254 which is in your price range and has all the functionality and headroom that you would need.

I have the Polk 50's, 30's and CS1, along with an Onkyo 507 and Acoustic Audio HD-SUB 12. I think it sounds fantastic and couldn't be happier. This receiver and subwoofer are right in your budget too.

14awg should be more than plenty. You could probably do 16gauge if running shorter distance but for the price I would stick to 14awg.

I have the Denon 1910 and it's in your price range, if you buy it at the right place.
TERRIFIC receiver. I've never been happier with my sound system.
I have 16 gauge speaker wire running in my small bedroom.
Get the 100 ft of speaker wire, though.
I bought the 50 ft thinking it was a lot, but it goes FAST. I used 50 feet just for my rear speakers.
