Default HD Component or hdmi

I am getting a sound system in march. I am wondering for the ps3 can I use the component for full hd. And use the hdmi for full hd sound. And can the component give full hd picture?

Not sure what you're asking. If you can use HDMI, then that is the way to go. You run the HDMI cable to your receiver, and then to the TV. It doesn't make a lot of sense to run component cables to the TV and a separate HDMI cable to your receiver. The HDMI carries a better signal, let everything flow through it.

But can the compnent produce 1080p picture quality so then I can just run a HDMI through the ps3 to the sound system. So then I dont have to mess with buying multiple HDMI's to put through all of my electronics.

You'll get much better quality with an HDMI cable, then component cables. If its something of price, don't buy the over priced HDMI cables from stores. Go to monoprice.com and get your self HDMI cables.

Trust me, you're talking about 2 total HDMI cables vs. a component and something else for audio (optical or even HDMI as you mentioned). One of the draws to using HDMI (aside from the improvement in Audio and Video quality) is that it replaces multiple bulky cables with just one HDMI cable. It is a much more efficient use of space and is the ideal way to go. Component cables have the ability to carry a signal up to 1080p, which HDMI can also do. But if I'm not mistaken, component is still an analog signal (whereas HDMI is digital).

As someone else mentioned, don't get hung up on the sticker price of HDMI cables in a big box store. You can buy 2 HDMI cables from monoprice.com for under $20 (for both).

Can component push 1080p, yes. However, there are so many advantaged to using HDMI. Less cables and Dolby True HD/DTS HD are the first that come to mind.

Actually, HD over component is limited to 1080i. If you are using a 1080p flat panel, the tv de-interlaces the 1080i.

Agreed. HDMI and monoprice.com all the way (I ordered four 8ft long High Speed HDMI 1.3a Category 2 Certified cables back on the 13th).

NO offence but i had actually bought a cable that was through monoprice over an ebay auction. It was a sub cable sheilded, and I got MASSIVE interfeirence from it if you hit the cable a bit the sub soudned off. I won't buy from monoprice I get all my cables off of ebay and pay less then monoprices prices. BUt to each their own I suppose.

The PS3 will output via HDMI for audio to a receiver capable of decoding Dolby TrueHD and DTS HDMA and at the same time can output the video via component to a TV.

Ideally you would use HDMI with a new TV and be done with it.

However, there are folks with older TV's that either have only component inputs or because of HDCP copy protection cannot view a picture via HDMI. Here is where the dual output capability of the PS3 comes in handy.

Also, for most people, you won't be able to tell the difference between componet and HDMI. Contrary to popular belief, the component output is hi-def and fantastic.

Ok......back to the OP........if you have a new TV, a PS3, and a sound system.....i.e. receiver that can accept HDMI.....please use it.

Cables from monoprice are well-built, inexpensive, and work as advertised. Buy from them, you will not be sorry. Check the ratings from customers at monoprice. No need for expensive Monster Cables.

If there is a problem as indicated in another post here, monoprice will take care of you. I have personally never had a problem with a monoprice product and have ordered many times from them.

Weird, I have a similar cable and it works fine. Was it really direct from Monoprice? And did you try to get it replaced?

I have all my hdmi cables from monoprice including speaker cable. Never had a problem with them. On the otherhand i have had some other makes and the cable seperated from the input and cable connection.

Go with monoprice hdmi.
