Component Vs Hdmi? - Blu-ray Forum

Not sure where to look for any comparison. The audio codec is not a concern. Just want to know which one will provide a better picture. Thanks for any advice.

most people can't tell the difference between HDMI and component video. both look amazing and both are considered high def video cables.

the only benefit of course with HDMI is that the audio is carried with the one cable. HDMI is also all digital, so no conversion is needed to be displayed on your TV.

Component is an analog video signal and needs to be converted to digital or from digital to be displayed. Both are good.

Some people say HDMI is the way to go.. and it's the current best way to solved complicated audio and video wiring problems.

Yeah, component and HDMI are both very good high-def cables, but HDMI just provides a cleaner signal. It also depends on your TV. If you want full 1080p, most TV's can accept that signal via HDMI. Very few sets can accept a full HD signal via component. Also remember, to get a great signal from the analog cables, you need to pay for the quality. A decent set of component cables can run you well over $100. The best HDMI cable costs about $3.

I can get a digital optical cable and HDMI cable for 1/2 the price of an HDMI cable at a B&M.

There are other companies like Bluejeancables.com or bluejeanscables.com whichever it is..... that are comparable to monoprice, but I only have experience with monoprice..... I've purchased a couple of HDMIs, and about 300 feet of speaker wire from monoprice..... they're easy to deal with, and ship fast.

Make sure you check for other "needs" because you might want to add a roll of speaker wire etc. to your order... usually the shipping fee only increases marginally after the initial order.

Either way it's cheap!
