Cool Blu Ray Archive Life

As a supplier of Optical jukeboxes, our jukebox vendors are looking to switch to using Blu Ray drives for writing file data. Can anyone tell me the expected life span of BD-R/RE discs?

Traditionally optical media has a lifespan of 30+ years and I have heard that the BD are 40x less scratch resistant than DVD.

Any help with this information would be appreciated.

The 40x number you've heard must be without a hard-coating, and none of the Blu-ray media will be released without one. The hard-coating should make the protection just as good as or better than DVD. The only number I've heard mentioned is the one from Sony:
