Default MGM Re-releasing titles as DVD/BD Combos - In DVD Cases

From the news section:

Quote:
On April 6, MGM Home Entertainment will re-release 16 of its catalog titles in DVD/Blu-ray combo editions. Note that they will all be two-disc releases, not two-sided "flippers." List price has been aggressively set at $19.99. Unlike previous combo releases by MGM and by other studios, these will come in the taller cases typically used for DVDs.

The movies released as DVD/Blu-ray combos include:

* A Bridge Too Far
* Bulletproof Monk
* The Graduate
* Hart's War
* Hoosiers
* Igor
* The Last Waltz
* Out of Time
* Road House
* Robocop
* Rocky
* Rollerball
* The Terminator
* The Usual Suspects
* Walking Tall
* Windtalkers

Thus, it turns out that some MGM catalog releases will be available, at least initially, as a BD/DVD combo and as a DVD/BD combo.

At the moment, there is no information as to whether the titles previously released in Blu-ray single-disc editions, or as BD/DVD combos, will be discontinued or not.

So Joe Six-Pack will know that these are okay for him to buy, they're DVDs, but sometime down the road when he upgrades to Blu-Ray, they'll be there waiting for him.

That's what the studio is thinking (hoping).

I opened this thread (and from the news section) thinking:

"Oh great, the BD and the DVD are on a different disc....it's about time!..no flippers!"

Then I read that they are going to be using DVD cases.

I then vomited in my own mouth.

I thought it said there would be sets in both types of cases.

Terminator already includes a lossless track.

It's PCM 5.1, but lossless nontheless. It's not bad for a 26 year old movie.

I'm getting tired of being an Elite member of society - everyone's always pandering to Joe Six-Pack and giving us higher-class citizens the finger.

These Blu/DVD combos in a DVD case are Day 628 buys for me - that'll show em! They keep this crap up and I'm just going to start sending all my money to Haiti.

Well like Molotov said, They're to make sure that the movies will the picked up so when regular people plan to upgrade, they will already be prepared...but I have one problem and its the design itself. To a regular buyer, they probably won't notice, but for a guy looking for some high def movies, he probably won't know its a BD movie without looking carefully...that is unless the package says "DVD/BD Combo" on it.

I really don't think these will sell. You know why? These are old movies. Granted, I don't have any of those titles on Blu-ray. If I could get them for under $10, then yeah I'd buy them.

Blu sales are incresing every quater. why don't they just leave well enough alone. Its like the damn flippers. Universal lost me as a customer, now we have to get our hd in dvd cases. Why don't they wise up. Every bd I've bought with a digital copy or dvd included I have thrown in the garbage. Just the bd please and thank you. Besides, if somebody wants the dvd they can just buy it, not like its a fortune.

Well, like I said to Universal on the flipper issue. Screw you MGM. Won't buy your BS either.

I won't be buying any of those catalog titles anyways. They better not do it with new releases, then I'll be mad.

If they are doing this for Joe Average to get into blu-rays I think it would make sense to use a blu-ray case as afterwards the regular dvd cases will look awkward. Glad I already got the titles on that list I already wanted.
