Default Netflix has failed me

Well . . . up until this point, I've been a vocal advocate of Netflix. However, I just checked my queue, and 2/3rds of my Blu-rays now have a Short or Long wait. This was not the case two days ago. The frustrating thing is, I've already been through this same thing with Blockbuster. I've got nowhere to turn . . . at this moment, 17 bucks looks like it'll be a waste. I guess I'll swing by my local Blockbuster tomorrow and see how their in-store selection is. What a disappointment.

My area supplies the blu rays very well, not sure if the warehouse has more or not as many people have it yet. All depends on where you live unfortunatly.

Do you not have any movies out right now?

I wouldn't throw in the towel yet, wait and see what happens when you return movies - see how quick you get a new one or if you get a blu-ray title.

When I rented KOH from Netflix, it came out of their Louisville distribution center, as opposed to the Dallas Center which is about 25 miles away... added about 2-3 days each way onto the shipping times...

Their infrastructure seems to be running very smoothly for DVDs, but you can't change an infrastructure designed to support millions of DVD subscribers to a system to meet the needs of far FAR fewer HD subscribers (remember, they also support that OTHER format) without a few growing pains... give it time, and it will improve, especially when the formats supported reduce from three to two.

I feel your pain. I live in Southern CA and have troubles getting Blu-Ray discs delivered on time. Netflix used to be so quick with getting movies to me. I am on the three disc at a time plan and have had many instances where my queue has an open spot or two. I go check my queue on their website and most if not all of my next selections are on "long wait" or "very long wait." Not good. Hell I am currently hoping for Disturbia, Shooter and Hot Fuzz (HD DVD though) and they are all "very long wait."

I have even complained to Netflix (e-mail only because they are too cheap to have reps via phone) and it makes no difference. I am stuck too because I tried Blockbuster some time ago and did not get anything I put in my queue.

I wonder to myself if the inability to get Blu-Ray discs is a good or bad thing. On one hand it is nice to see the format taking hold, but on the other hand I am bummed that I rarely get my Blu-Ray's on time.

I suggested to Netflix in my last complaint e-mail to offer some sort of plan that would ensure that their customers get the movies within a couple of day period, for an additional cost. I would pay more per month to make sure that I have a steady stream of arrivals. Also, I am not one of those members that go through movies like water. I may watch two to three movies per week.

Based on what I have been told, its all about what distribution center you are near. For my BB, its in Phoenix and there are a LOT of affluent people around here who have BD players and BB has not kept up at all. Although I did notice for the first time this week that the BD version of a new release wasn't immediately VERY LONG WAIT, which they had been the previous weeks, so maybe they have finally stepped up their supply. Maybe someone should start a Blu-ray only rental service and grab that part of the market

Exactly right. The simple truth is the majority of the population hasn't adopted HD formats. The demand isn't as strong as it is for standard DVD and rental chains are going to stock fewer high definition discs to reflect that. When the format war is over and when HD gets a larger base things will change. Right now, though, this is what [comparatively] earlier adopters will have to put up with.

I figured I'd give Blockbuster another chance, so I signed up for their free trial to see how the Blu-ray selection and availability was. Out of 12 movies I put in my queue, all but 2 had a long or short wait, and the two that don't have a wait are available on Netflix, too. So . . . I cancelled my trial after being a member for about 15 minutes. Sometimes it really sucks being a part of the early adopters.

Netflix has failed me as well. I have never gotten a new release Blu-Ray with out it saying "Very Long Wait".

The only Blu-Ray I am able to get from Netflix are titles that have been released for more than 6 months...and it still will take 3-4 days.

Standard DVDs usually only take 1 day. We have a Netflix distribution center right in my city.

Does any body remember the "throttling" issue that Netflix got busted with? I wonder if they're up to their old tricks.

Checked out my local Blockbuster today, actually. I was less than impressed with their selection. I would say they had, at most 40 titles. Now, on the upside, they had all 40 some titles in stock, but none of them were newer than 3 weeks old.

Yeah, I went to my BB last week, and thought "That's it?". Then I noticed about 80 more titles on another rack.
