Default Hockey in HD....lcd vs. plasma...

ok folks...big hockey fan here...I used to have a sony lcd a few years ago, and watching hockey on it was just awesome !!!

i loved the "pop" of the white ice...made seeing the puck easy......

that tv is gone and now i am looking for a 32" , maybe 37" ? (for the bedroom), hockey will be the main thing i watch on it.....

question for you hockey fans out there ? i am trying to keep it cheap....so i will be going with 720p....can i get a 37" 720p and not notice the difference between 720p and 1080 ? or stay with the 32" for 720p?

also, what do you think is better for watching hockey, plasma or lcd ?

lastly....LOOK OUT LEAGUE ! HERE COMES "THE BIG EASY"......LET'S GO BUFFALO !!!!!

I have an LCD, all I can say is that it look's wonderful on it. I never seen HD sports of any type on a plasma. There is a few details for sports that might be important like refresh rates and such. I am sure others will come along and be able to give you more details on that.

I have an LCD TV and a LCD projector and sports look great to my eyes. My TV has motion enhancer with 120Hz. However, the most important thing with movement like there is in sports is the refresh rate to get the smoothest and clearest picture, and plasmas win. So if you are a sports guy, I say go with a plasma. As far as hockey goes, I doubt you will notice a difference between 720p and 1080i when viewing the game on your TV. As far as with 1080p, that also depends on how big your set is going to be and how far you intend to sit away from it.....but in making a generalization, yes, you should notice better PQ in 1080p. However, nothing televised on TV is higher than 720p/1080i in case you are unaware of that. Good luck.

I have a Panny X1 50" (720P) - Plasma
Insignia LCD 37" 720
Samsung B360 LCD 32" 720

X1 is an awesome display, HD is insane on it... The LCDs look good too... You have to remember that what you see is how you calibrate it... I can make the colors on the plasma pop and look oversaturated like an LCD in a store... It can run the spectrum of dull to over-the-top pop...

Bottom of the line is the 720/1080 is much more talk and hype than actual reality...i'd say you get 90+% of the utility for half the cost going w/ 720... (X1 is 699, S1 1250)

On 32, or 37" no brainer go with 720p... If you want to press your face up to the screen and play PS3 games, then you might feel you got alot of utilty going w 1080...

goodluck...you can't really go too far wrong...

I recommend the Samsung B360 LCD in 32" FWIW...good bedroom tv....

Well, I am bringing up this old thread I made seeing that it's playoff time and i still haven't bought an HDTV yet.....and I am getting the bug now once again...

Once again I am asking for some opinions.....I think I would like at least a 40" tv....I'm leaning towards LCD but have not ruled out plasma....

I'm looking to spend like a grand at the most.....Ideas for a decent set ?

thanks

Panasonic Plasma is the way to go, so long as you have some control over the amount of light in the room.(Brigther LCDs can cut through the light better, if not) Plasmas motion resolution is better than LCDs.

Watching Versus HD on my Sony looks awsome and I cant wait to see the Hockey playoffs on it. I know one thing watching the Indy races on Versus HD is simply stunning.
