DTS Blu-ray

Hey I'm new to this thang, but i wanted address the lack of Dts sound on blu-ray's. 300 comes out tommorrow and the disc doesn't have any DTS soundtracks DAMMMMMMM

The disc has a Dolby TrueHD and an uncompressed LPCM track and your complaining about regular ol' DTS not being offered? True, it's better than regular ol' Dolby, but the TrueHD and LPCM are much better offerings than either of those "legacy" codecs.

FYI, 85-90% of the titles on BD come with compressed lossless (DTS-HD MA/Dolby TrueHD) or uncompressed lossless (LPCM), so BD's lacking DTS isn't too large of an issue; it is, though, on the neutral titles in which the BD version gets screwed sonically whereas the HD DVD counterpart doesn't, then I would lament the lack of at least the inclusion of a DTS track.

I meant dts hd, and in my opinon, dts beats dolby hands down in surroundsound. At least I wsih I had the optoin between soundtracks.

There's no difference in the end between DTSMA/DD TrueHD and PCM

There's no "sounds better".

And there's really no difference between DD and DTS when they use the same mix.

Now I can say this: ALL Fox BDs have DTS HD MA (which I've heard great stuff about), and I expect Fox will continue using DTS HD MA on all future releases. Also, most of the MGM BDs (via Fox) have DTS HD MA. Most of the early Paramount BD releases have DTS 5.1...many of the early and present Lionsgate BDs have DTS 5.1, DTS 6.1, or DTS HD (depending on BD title).

Apparently Fox is dumping DTS MA. Expect PCM and/or TrueHD on future titles

Man is this a uniformed response. Twister and the Lethal Weapon series are DVD's that use full bit rate Dts, and Dolby Digital sans dialog norm. They use the same mix, have been level match in the studio by Warner and make excellent comparison material.

I found that the Dts track on Twister had tighter deeper bass, a more coherent soundfield, better imaging, and when things got really loud, Dts held together better than Dolby D. I also found the LFE boomy and indistinct, and overall Dolby sounded thin and occasionally strident at high levels. Here is DVDfiles review of the same movie.

So even when the masters are the same, the results of the encoding are not always.

Man is this a uniformed response. Twister and the Lethal Weapon series are DVD's that use full bit rate Dts, and Dolby Digital sans dialog norm. They use the same mix, have been level match in the studio by Warner and make excellent comparison material.

Hardly uninformed, and since the number of full bitrate DTS tracks out there is miniscule compared to half, which as I said sounds virtually identical. It effectively makes no difference except on what, 20 titles?

I would agree that DTS is better than Dolby on modern DVD titles (1993 and onwards) but I have always preferred Dolby on old movies.

For the Blu-ray Disc releases as long as either PCM, DTS-MA or TrueHD is used I'm quite satisfied.

Well, that's Warner Bros. for ya!
In the history of both standard DVD, Blu-Ray and HD-DUD, it has been EXTREMELY rare for Warner to put DTS on the above mentioned media.
In fact, Warner has not put DTS on any of it's BDs and HD-DUDs. Do NOT expect Warner to put DTS on any of it's BDs or HD-DUDs because of one simple fact: Warner does not support DTS -- we just don't know why. They either don't want to bump up the disc price $5 by adding the DTS premium, or WB may be a bunch of Dolby fan-boys, or a combination of both.
In fact, I think the future of DTS on Blu-Ray looks murky at best.
Now I can say this: ALL Fox BDs have DTS HD MA (which I've heard great stuff about), and I expect Fox will continue using DTS HD MA on all future releases. Also, most of the MGM BDs (via Fox) have DTS HD MA. As I said earlier, the future of DTS on Blu-Ray is murky at best. I think the vast majority of studios (with the exception of Fox) are gravitating toward using LPCM and/or Dolby Digital/Dolby Digital Plus/Dolby TrueHD on their future releases.
So, in a nutshell, DO NOT expect DTS on Warner and Sony BDs. Fox will be a DTS fan's Heaven, and the rest will probably be a DTS fan's Hell.
Only time and studio exec decision-making will tell..........

I don't think any of that matters here... Because the disc has not 1, but 2 lossless audio tracks on it. It shouldn't matter if it has DTS or not because it has PCM and Dolby TrueHD, both of which are better than DTS to the point of there not being a comparison...

Guys, in this case not having DTS-MA is a GOOD thing, because no Blu-Ray player supports it. As already been stated, lossless is the same regardless of the format, so Dolby TrueHD and PCM is just fine.

I wish DTS-MA would either be supported by the PS3 immediately or just go away. Either way, no real point in future titles supporting it.

Yeah but in the future it will be supported... And the good thing about DTS is the core track. Instead of the 640kbps core track Dolby has, DTS has a 1.5mbps track. Plus you can still have DTS 6.1 from the core only...

As for tydw94, have you ever heard a Dolby TrueHD or PCM audio track?

I have to disagree with you on that one. when i discovered dts you couldn't pay me enough to buy their products. I accidentally heard a dts movie from a local store and that was about 5 years ago. And beleive it or nor I'm not into numbers, lossless this or PCM that, I just let my ears decide.
