Exclamation Die Hard - SD transfer

I am currently watching die hard on demand (comcast) and I have to say, as much as I LOVE this movie, they have A LOT of work to do to get it to HD quality. A LOT! The picture shows it's age badly. I really hope they did a good job on this and not some half assed job. Would really suck badly.

I bet for cable they did a simple transfer for HD, I'm sure, and quite frankly hoping, that the blu-ray release will be better.

I have not seen an HD version of DH yet (least I don't recall). I am watching the SD version. Only version I have seen.

Whoops, my fault, I was assuming you were watching it in HD. You know what happens when you assume...

The people who have seen the DVHS of 'Die Hard' say it looks pretty good. I have seen it on HBO HD and think it looks pretty good.

Let's hope this franchise looks/sounds great on blu-ray. Here's to hoping!

The first Die Hard on DVD has some TERRIBLE blurring issues, specifically where McClane is getting out of his seat on the plane. That'll be the first thing I look for on the BD, but I have high hopes. Fox is usually pretty good.

You mean the first version on the DVD? The one without the anamorphic transfer?

I thought the 2-Disc 5-Star Edition was a great transfer.

Actually I was noticing the other day that the 5 star transfer looks really bad! Extremely soft and blurry.

I've seen Die Hard on HBO HD and it looks pretty bad since I'm sure all they did is upconvert it. I'm def looking forward to the blu ray

I'm sure they will re-sample the entire movie... from the original source.. probably also restoring anything they think needs it. If people are going to spend that kind of money, i am sure it will be done right, from scratch.

I can vaguely remember how it looked in the theater. It's been a while. But you do realize that some movies are just shot using soft filters, right? I think this was the way they (John McTiernan and Jan De Bont) intended it to look like.

The 5-Star Edition was made using a different, cleaner print than the non-anamophic version.

I have Comcast HD and I can tell you that the video is compressed. Even with fiber optic, there are just to many channels for the pipeline. I haven't seen HD on satellite yet, but I think it's probably better.

I was referring to the 5-Star Edition, I forgot they had put one out before that. Check out the scene where McClane is talking to the guy on the plane upon his arrival in LA. When he goes to get up, there is some seriously blurring going on there. One of the scenes I remember, along with the sky in the beach scene in The Punisher, as being just really bad.

I plan on price matching Target at Best Buy for the set. And I'll be picking up the SD Unrated LFODH. Dammit.

Default Die Hard Subtitles

When I watch a movie I always have the subtitles displaying. I just finished watching the first Die Hard movie and noticed that the subtitles for the movie were listed under English 2 instead of the regular English 1 like all other movies. This is a bit strange. I watched the fourth and am not watching the second and noticed English subtitles are under English 1. Perhaps this is just a mistake on the first disk. This is a little strange nevertheless. I also recall that someone mentioned that the second in the series does not have the usual DTS-HD MA. Are there other bugs on the die hard quadrilogy.

As aside note, I wish Fox titles would allow pause by pressing X on the PS3 controller like a few other studios have done. I hate pressing triangle and then find the pause button to stop the movie.
