I've been thoroughly enjoying my blu ray capabilities for over a month now using Powerdvd 8. however, the majority of the discs i've been playing, i've been encountering a recurring issue. i'll be watching a movie and all is fine and somewhere during, it will freeze up, like would happen with a very badly scratched dvd in the past. problem is these blu-rays don't have a fingerprint on them let alone a single scratch. the only movie i can remember that i don't recall giving me an issue was Underworld. however, Hellboy started freezing around the 12 min mark and wouldn't stop until i moved it to around the 25 min mark. No Country For Old Men began freezing towards the last 1/3 iirc. I just got incredibly frustrated tonight while i was watching The Prestige and it was fine till the 1:16:00 mark and then it froze and kept slowly trying to advance to a playable part but never got there. this makes no sense, the disc is pristine. can someone give me some insight as to why this may be happening? is it the software? i've never been a big pdvd fan, but it seems to be the best at covering all of the codecs so i went for it. any help anyone could offer would be highly appreciated. could it be this blu ray drive? when it plays it plays perfect, but there's always that 'oh no' feeling when it screws up and seems to stop being able to read the disc...so here's my specs:

This is odd indeed. I was actually about to leave when I saw you were playing your discs on a CPU, because I don't do that yet, but I thought I'd let you know that my Sony Blu-ray player freezes as well. It was worse in the beginning, before all the firmware upgrades.
I'm sure someone will be along in a minute who is more knowlegable about the PC aspect of Blu-ray, but for now, maybe do some research on your software and see if there are any upgrades. Good luck, |

thanks for the reply. i haven't been able to do much lately cuz i've been putting in a lot of overtime at the old jobby job. sadly, i have to say things have only gotten worse. i applied the newest update to powerdvd bringing me to version 8.0.2021.a.50 and sadly as soon as i ran a blu ray it got about 5 seconds into it and now it tells me my %@#$ing GPU is not HDCP compliant, which it most certainly is...as are my monitor, blu-ray drive AND mobo! (Cyberlink PowerDVD is not able to play the protected content on your digital output device. Please switch to an analog output and then try again. - (Error code = 0110) )
I have a Sapphire Radeon 4850 on the newest 8.9 catalyst drivers and my monitor is a Samsung T240. WTF is going on here? ![]() ![]() |

It will not play Blu-ray discs. I haven't bothered to burn any of my content/backups, yet.
The software installed is the same as noted, above: 'Cyberlink Power DVD 8' (cyberjunk), and it was included with the drive. I'm welcome to suggestions for other drivers or media players. udf 2.5 driver for xp Thank you. Is that on microsoft.com? I'll look. I appreciate the help. Googled and got this link as a workaround. Opinions?

Slysoft ANYDVD (without looking at the link) is illegal in the US and some other countries as it gets around copy protection and region codes. Might be better to just try updating your software- PowerDVD9 works great for me.
Whoop, looked closer at the link. Doubt I would mess with that without backing it up first. |

Power DVD9 and TMT work great for me with no issues. I have both running on seprate systems and I must say that I think I prefer TMT. As far as I know blu ray play back is sketchy in XP, I have seen it done But I would say Vista or Win7 may be the way to go just for ease of use etc...........

I'm interested in playing Blu-ray discs in my home, on my pc.
@onyxbfly: What is TMT? Also, purchasing Windows 7 (Vista? Are you crazy?) would be spending an additional $100+. That's not an option I like. @aramis109: Regarding SlySoft, I was just following the google, trying to figure a solution. Powerdvd 9 may be an excellent program. That software was not included in the purchase of the Blu-ray drive, Powerdvd 8 was what came with it. I don't mean to be rude, and I certainly don't intend for you helpful souls to take my displeasure as reflecting on you, but when I spend money (over $140) on a product, I expect it to work (realizing how naive that is in the computo-age). Please forgive me, but I don't see how rewarding Cyberlink with my money would encourage them to keep their (older by one iteration) software workable. @onyxbfly + @aramis109: Both of you, thanks for reading and responding. I appreciate it, grumps notwithstanding! Last edited by permazorch; 03-04-2010 at 01:25 PM. |

I haven't tried it yet, but I pulled this from another forum:
http://www.afterdawn.com/software/vi..._pack_full.cfm It's a codec pack (free!) to allow playback of blu-ray in windows media player. I can't vouch for it, but if you're still having troubles, another software option may be a good test. Hope it helps. |

I haven't yet downloaded/applied. My home has been a den of illness and chaos. I'm going to give it a shot, right now.
