USA I'm Leaving This Site. Goodbye Everyone. It's Been Fun.......Well, Sort Of........?

So, last night I posted a short and completely innocent story about my little 10 year-old hilarious cousin who wants to get into Judaism.....and it gets deleted.....

The story was NOT about 'religion'. It was about the totally random way kid's bring things up to you and that point was as clear as day.. I'd like to know where the harm in a story like that was?

So apparently just because the use of one lousy word, my thread gets deleted? What if I had replaced the word "Judaism" with "elf" or "tooth fairy".....it'd still be up there. THAT reason alone is such a low-ball move on whoever deleted my thread.

There's a difference between being a moderator and a forum Nazi, unfortunately this forum seems to have too many of the latter, so I have no problems leaving a place that makes you feel like you're living in Cold War Russia.

Take care everyone!

It is getting a bit ridiculous with some of the over-moderation being condoned around here. There are times when moderation is needed, and then there are times when it seems that some (who finally have a little authority in their lives) just want to show they have power. You (and I) are not the only ones around here that have noticed this in the last month or so, and I expect it will drive many from this site.

Now, let's start a pool to see just how long this thread remains open before the inevitable lock is thrown on it.

BTW, I would have to agree that a thread like yours should have been closed, as it would inevitably lead to arguments.

Hey they're human, sometimes they go too far.

But rules are rules.

Good luck!

The only thing they have done was deleted several of my posts when I had a feud with a few members.

Hey Offender ,

I can't speak for everyone, but after looking to see why your thread was removed, and regardless if the topic was primarily about religion or not (even if it's non-offensive or humorous in tone), no religious discussion--as has always been stated and strictly enforced via the forum rules--is exactly that...the ONLY exception to this rule is for movie discussion based on religiously-themed movies, but even then it's a very slippery slope. I'm sorry this incident is resulting in your leaving the site and I hope you decide to reconsider .

Sussudio

Edit: Fyi, there has been a reminder sticky in Off Topic (now General Chat) since February 2008 that is titled:

From Forum Rules and Guidelines: General Rules

Quote:
You are only allowed to discuss religion and politics when it is the main topic of a specific movie. Keep in mind that all people are different and have different beliefs, so be respectful to each other. Stay on topic and make sure what you say is directly related to the movie.

I don't think they are given any kind of support, guidance or instruction; or at least not nearly enough of it.

I've always read that if you have a question whether something you want to post is appropriate or not... you should ask a mod. I did exactly that, and the mod simply replied "I'm going to leave that up to you to decide."

That's either

A. Setting up a member who is TRYING to do the right thing up for an infraction

or

B. Treating the member as if they are a child who needs to figure things out on their own.

Either way... not very good modding.

Gotta love the drama on these forums at time.

And the accusations of "Nazi Moderators" is both assinine and idiotic.

It's a touchy subject. I read the post in question before it was pulled. While I did not find it at all offensive I wondered then if it would cause issue with anyone, and apparently it did. I'm sorry to see you leave the site over it.

I suspect this thread will also be locked before too long.

Considering how big this forum is, i think the mods are doing a pretty good and fair job. However i'm mostly not too much active in the off-topic threads (off-topic as in this a Blu-ray forum....) and these like to get out of hand rather quickly. I welcome the strict no-religion and no-politcs rule, i frankly don't care about these topics wrt Blu-ray.

Indeed. There are entire forums dedicated to discussing religion and politics.

You just can't talk subjects like religion here.

If this forum was made up of only mature, open-minded people we could discuss such subjects. But as we all know, that's not the case, which is why the rule exists.

Take most of the actions the moderators do with a grain of salt. They are not being paid, for a thankless job that gives few benefits. Of course they make mistakes in judgment, but I am sure they are just following instructions from the site's owners. Most of us at one time or another, if you stick around long enough, have been the unintended victim of a wrong decision by the moderators. It always irks me when they move a good deal for imports that apply to Americans, to the unnoticed UK deals section.

Just roll with the punches and stick around.

On a forum of this size, I seriously doubt they dedicated the time/resources of a mod to just tracking one member.
