alcohol over time, even if diluted will eat through the screen....distilled water is the safest thing to use to clean any screen. also on lcd the screens are not sealed shut. do not spray anything directly on to the screen, as water or the liquid of choice can seep in between the case

NEVER, i repeat NEVER use alcohol, even if it's diluted to just 1% you will be doing damage to the screen over time. I'm a photographer who uses Eizo LCD's($3-5k per 24inches) and will only use my camera lens cleaning clothes for dust, or the alcohol free cleaning solutions to get rid of fingerprints.
I have actually had good results with Monsters "Screen Clean" solution. I know monster sucks in general, but they make a great cleaning solution. Fellow photographer turned me onto it after seeing him use it at a soccer game where semi moist dirt was collecting on his macbook screen. Cleaned it right off, without any scratches or residue. Canned air can be pretty good, but the cost adds up, and the pressure they release does pose a small risk to delicate surfaces like screens or lenses. It's why i don't use canned air on my camera lenses. Instead give the closed system squeeze style air blowers a try.

if you need a little stronger add 30% rubbing alcohol, spray on to the towel not the screen. works great for me. |

i second the distilled water trick it works like a charm just spray some on a soft cloth like the type you clean glasses with dont use to much. id recommend using canned air to blow of the dust frst bc some of the dust can be abrasive if u rub it into ur screen

Alcohol on LCD= bad. you may have great results from it at first, but over time it will damage the screen. It can damage the coating, and dry out/crack the plastic after enough use. Especially with a mixture as high as 30%.
