Arrow Close Encounters of the Third Kind promotional videos?

Okay people, are these two 'viral videos' released by Sony to boost support for their upcoming BD release of Close Encounters of the Third Kind? If so, they're very cool and are very well done. I'm thinking it cost a lot of $$$ to make these:

And a real one I found an another forum for those interested:

Anyone? Looks like they were done by Vue 6. Impressive nonetheless.

I doubt these were done by Sony. There is a CGI program you can buy to add these types of effects. Anyone can use these and post the video on youtube as they have. The Mexican Air Force video was interesting, however.

What would you make you think these are in any shape or form related to a blu-ray release of Close Encounters of the Third Kind?

Just a guess, nothing in particular other than cool UFO footage.

Wow. It shows you how you can't trust any video evidence anymore. Those were amazingly realistic "amateur camcorder videos".

I wonder how the aliens managed to miss the USA and slip into Mexico?

Isn't it amazing how the US can't manage to manage and solve problems in the Middle East, North Korea, Sudan, etc. but seems to have absolutely no problem suppressing evidence of alien visitation (which of course, only seems to happen in the USA)?

How about the US has being subjected to repeated serious spy losses in the cold war, where the penalty for it was death, but somehow managed to cover up the alien stuff.

Such amazingly selective competancy when it comes to protecting information, wouldn't you say?

Which is why I can't wait to see what they do with 01-18-08 since this is reported to be entirely shot on camcorder. If amateur video looks this good imagine what they should be able to do with a Hollywood budget.

I wonder when that's going to get a real name? Or is it actually going to be titled after its release date?

Supposedly the name of the film was to be released at Comic-Con, however due to the leak of the movie poster J.J. Abrams and Paramount decided not to reveal it. I don't know if I buy that since Abrams has a good nack of keeping people guessing. So I bet it won't be released until the last possible moment. I would think that it would be ingenious marketing not to release the actual movie title until people see it in the theatre and learn of the title during the opening credits of the film. How different would that be!

You can shoot using 35/70mm and your CGI VFX be rendered at 480p. That's how some of the early 90s series look like, or even the current low-budget ones are done. Doing so make the effects standout, which may be intentional.

I don't have any idea how that film was shot but you can use a Panavision Genesis, light it like a regular video production or verite style and you can have that camcorder effect. You can also introduce digital video noise like you can see with camcorder to the original 2K videos. That would be much more practical as it's easier to render in 2K and match it with 2K footages (and then introduce video noise), than to match your 2K render in 480p footages.

Coming back to CE3K, I want one. I'll have to watch my DVD copy again.

Hmm, a thread about Close Encounters turned into a little USA bashing there. No agenda there at all, huh? And as far as "alien visitation" only happening in the USA? Well, it seems like the aliens are checking out your neck of the woods too, LOL.

Just a thought, but how about we keep it on topic here. There's no reason to turn this whole thing political.

Sorry, wasn't meant to be USA bashing. It was in response to people who demand the US government release the proof of alien visitation.

Why would the US have this proof and nobody else? And how good are any governments at keeping the HUGE secrets?

Anyway, that doesn't detract from the film which is science fiction and fantasy. And presented in a realistic manner for a "what if" scenario.

I have a book by Nick Pope you should read called Open Skies, Closed Minds. He is a former member of the British Ministry Of Defence who had access to top secret information. He was a kind of real life Mulder. If you get a chance you should read this, it's a really good book.
