Out of the Blue Kickstarter Blu-ray

The producers of Dennis Hopper's follow-up to Easy Rider and The Last Movie have set up a Kickstarter to fund a 4K restoration and re-release - including on Blu-Ray - with a $35,000 goal.

A Blu-Ray can be had with the $50 backer tier and it seems like you will receive your local release if they have a distribution deal in your territory. $295 can get you a poster signed by Linda Manz.

Considering the difficulty of getting Canadian films restored/remastered without federal funding, this is the next best hope. I had just been reminded how awesome the film is by a recent podcast (it might have been mentioned in an episode of The Movies That Made Me). I love this movie, so I'll sign up!

If they release a 4K UHD Blu-ray then I'm in. Dolby Vision HDR would be sweet, but not sure if the licensing or whatever would make that practical.

If this is an independent project, I wouldn't expect to see a UHD release.

It would be nice, though I'm not sure who's attention to bring it to to make that happen!

A UHD would be nice, but I expect unlikely unless the funding goal was to be reached with a lot of time to spare.

I guess that means it wasn't in the pipeline for one of the companies like VS. $50 is more than I wanted to spend, but if this is how we have to do it, at least it gets done. I'm backing.

After a slow-ish start, it passed the halfway mark today and is sitting just above $20k at the moment.

I pledged for the blu ray as its one of my 5 favorite films ever. I would have sprung for the signed Linda Manz poster in a heartbeat, but those old folded posters are awful. I wish it was a new print. Anyways I'm glad its looking like it will get a proper restoration and blu ray release. But its kind of depressing such a fantastic movie wasn't picked up by any labels. Alas.
