Default I was scammed!!!!!!

Today at work, this nice looking SUV pulled up and some dude convinced me to buy their product. Of course, I looked at it and it appeared very nice. He even showed me some invoice and told me some story about he got more than what he asked for and offered me a deep discount of $350 for a so-called product worth $1999.99. I was stupid enough and bought his advice along with the surround system. Him and his partner-in-crime even followed me to the nearest ATM. I took the money out and ACTUALLY paid those scammers. They scammed me at the right time because I was in the market for a surround system. Well, I got it! Its a cheap ass system worth $50 or so.

What should I do with it? I haven't opened it yet and I definitely want my money back. Why wasn't I aware of this scam?

Sorry to hear about this. I've heard about this numerous times. I think even my cousin told me about it when I was going thru the fraud check/tv ordeal. Lucky for me I took down all the information the guy had on him (and vehicle, license plate). He was sentenced to 5 years for writing a bad check on someone elses frozen account. I got my tv back and if this guy ever gets a job that pays I will be reimbursed. You just never know sometimes. In your situation if you have never heard of the product then don't do it. Never buy anything out of a van/vehicle. Its either stolen or a knock off product.

Ouch, the old white van scam, not much you can do unless you happen to spot them again, but I suspect they are long gone to a different area, and I doubt the cops would be very sympathetic...

Just googled and found this - might be of help

Why would you buy something out of the back of a van/truck? Sorry to hear about it though. Atleast it wasn't a brick.

He was rushing it and talking fast and that was how I was deceived. I actually thought it was "hot (stolen)" and the product was worth $1999.99. All afternoon , I was thinking about selling it and making a profit but i guess not. LESSON LEARNED.

Do you know if I can be reimbursed for this? Take them to court and sue them?

This is no laughing matter. I'm just looking for opportunity. Its most likely not going to happen but I've learned from my mistake.

Sorry but I thought it was kind of funny when you asked if you could sue them. I mean in all honesty they didnt do anything illegal to you. Sorry to say it, but its no ones fault but yours. Glad you learned your lesson.

Different states have different laws, and I am unsure what you would sue for. Anyway, asking here won't help you, you need to ask a local lawyer and see what your rights are in your state (and how much it will cost you).

Warning: Lawyers are not cheap, you have to decide how much more money you want to sink into this error that you made. I have no idea who you want to reimburse you (unless you were talking about going to court).

Ok so, I should just forgive them for what they've done and move forward? Hiring a lawyer seems too much trouble.

No, don't forgive, just forget. The best (and hardest) thing to do is just laugh it off, throw it on eBay or Craigslist and try to get $50-$100 for it (after you make sure it works!). Then tighten your belt for a few weeks, skips some new release blu's. Then you're back at square one with a little wisdom and a good story. BTW, DO NOT tell that story when you're trying to sell it

Just ask a friend who is a lawyer or maybe you have another friend or co-worker who knows a lawyer. Won't cost you a dime, moving on is up to you.

I now know never to buy anything from you with your ethics...

Blu-ray Fanatic - if you did manage to get a plate number I would speak with the local PD and consult with a lawyer (they usually don't charge for initial consultation) just to find out where you stand. Meanwhile open up a bottle of whiskey

Forgive me twice mods! This is the last time.
dont kick urself too hard, the best scammers would be able to sweet talk even a sophisticated audiophile into buying garbage, even if he knew he was buying garbage.

something inate to human nature, they know how to push the right buttons. the best way to win is dont even let them start with their sales pitch, tell em get lost and close the door, or leave the area.

Sorry about your loss of $. But your lucky that's all that you lost. Since you stated that "They" even went with you to the ATM. You lost money. But you could of lost a lot more. I seems you tried to beat the system and instead it beat you. They were nothing more than salesmen. And you were the mark. This has been going on for decades. Sorry.
