Default EA admits putting PS3 on the back burner

EA admits putting PS3 on back burner

Richtel revisited the topic after hearing back from EA about the issue. A representative with the publisher told the writer that as a release date nears, the company sometimes readjusts the manpower on the projects to complete the Xbox 360 version first.

With a larger installed base for Microsoft's console, the rep said it makes financial sense to get that version of a game out first and maximize potential sales. The representative also noted that in the last generation, it made more sense for the publisher to focus on PlayStation 2 versions of games over those on the Xbox because of the platform's massive installed user base.
Like I've said elsewhere, they're stretched way too thin making the same games every year for 10 platforms including the cell phone . That's just ONE of their problems

Nice way to tick off PS3 owners...like me who will only buy their half a**ed games used now so they don't get any profit

well, at least they are admitting it now, instead of just shouting "PS3 sucks". Thanks to other companies saying how PS3 wasnt bad at all, and are delivering results, EA was backed into a corner.

this doesnt surprise me, but EA really needs to re-think their game plan for the future bc after releases like Madden 08 they are gonna need alot of help..

Sounds like such a ringer endorsement for EA and their PS3 platform games.

Especially since they already have had a crack at the PS3 for the past year. They had Madden 07 out on the PS3 last year.

That's what makes this that much less forgiveable.

It's not like the PS3 just came out a handful of months ago and EA suddenly had to whip up something out of nowhere.

I just find it hard to believe with the kind of manpower and resource and wealth that a huge company like EA and EA sports are that they couldn't get it all done better than this.

I just don't believe it, flat out.

These football games are some of the most popular titles that come out every year.

Make no mistake about it: Short term this has hurt the PS3 and helped MS and the Xbox 360.

I will not sign on to any conspiracy theories unless this happens again next year, with Sony hating zealot Peter Moore now working at EA Sports.

I will say this again: I still don't really buy at least 9/10 of the excuses I've seen for this rubbish.

I think it's rather telling how 2k has been dead silent on this entire issue. They had promised their All Pro game was being developed for each console seperately and dedicated and that proved to be 100 percent false. At least they aren't even bothering with a pretense of lying and pathetic excuses like EA has.

EA is to blame and Sony is partially to blame for not doing a better job meeting third parties halfway on their hardware.

Sony arrogantly coming out in the press with "Well, we've gotten OUR games to run at 60fps!" is worthless. OF COURSE you guys know your OWN hardware better then everyone else and can do this. Duh!

Anyways, I know a few hardcore football guys that even went as far as to trade in their PS3's outright along with the PS3 versions of the football titles for 360 all the way. They did this for money reasons, obviously, but they also did it because they were angry and annoyed.

Granted, these folks are in the extreme, but in the middle of the spectrum you have even more people who own both systems or own PS3's and bought 360's this past month to get the better versions of these games.

Anyway you cut it: Short term it hurts the PS3 and helps the 360.

These are the latest and most prominent examples of games that were not ported very well from the 360. We even have threads here with some of you complaining about some of those games.

^^
That's the problem with some people that leads to angry decisions like what I spelled out above.

Right or wrong, "perception=reality" and I've been harping on this for months: Sony needs to take very aggresive steps to put this "trend" down yesterday.

Doesn't surprise me. EA won't re-think their plan, not until PS3 as a larger installed base, it's all about the $$.
I may pick up an EA game once in a while, so really it does't matter to me.

Well, as I said on the playstation forums... This is almost as much Sony's fault as EA's.

If Sony pulled their head out, they would see how much PS3 owners are hating on ports right now... All ports. They would set up quality control measures before licensing the titles to be published on their platform. Force the damn lazy developer's to learn the platform if they want to make any money off it now or in the future... And, it's future is _very_ bright. Developer's would have to be total fools to give that up. Lord knows the Xbox 360 is on a majorly declining sell-through right now.

There's 4.5 million PS3's in the market place. 120+ million PS2's. It's time for Sony to put it's foot down and start making some demands. See how EA likes it when they can't release on PS2 until their PS3 product is up to par. That's $$ talking.

Of course, Sony would have to back this up with a decent developer's kit which they seem to have not produced yet either. All reports say the current ones are terrible and developer's have been wingin' it on their own.

Only one problem with that analogy: These games kick ass on the 360.

Not a huge deal as I own both systems. I would have preferred to get it for the PS3 though to avoid playing on my Elite that's already freezing up after less than two weeks of owning it (froze daily on my Premium I had for a year before replacing it). If it wasn't for all the great 360 games I would have gave up on the system when I first got it.

i heard the elites should have better reliability. check your power source and see if it's anything there causing the problem.

My Elite already broke and now I no longer own any 360.

EA has been the worse company for years now. The screw over their employees and make mostly ports. So do what so many EA haters (which is getting to be a hugh group) and dont buy their games.

hopefully they wont renew there NFL contract which makes them a monopoly in the NFL gaming world I think it expires in a year ... they should spend less time worrying about the past and more time on the future of gaming (BLU_RAY)

Nor am I. I will wait until the PS3 becomes more of a priority. And it sucks because I love madden, but I'm not wasting money like I did on Madden 07

Cool EA will pay for this

I wonder how much this has to do with the fact that EA is the only game in town for current pro football. since they now have the "exclusive license" they can pretty much walk all over the consumer. I knew this was going to end up biting us (the consumer) in the ass.

Totally agree with you on that point... I mean, with out ESPN and 2K football, who is going to push EA to make a better football game???
