Hi there,
I currently have a Samsung LN40A650 1080p hdtv, SHARP HP-21U BD-Player, and a Samsung HT-AS720 5.1 Amp + Speakers. Nothing spectacular but less than 2 years with all of this i'm already thinking of taking the 3-D plunge. I love my television but i'm VERY dissatisfied with the black levels of my current LCD. I have a couple of flashlights and slight clouding that the average person wouldn't notice but i dwell on, and in instances of dark scenes in film i am drawn to it. It has bothered me for months and months. Before i get yelled at for not going Plasma if i am so obsessed with inky black levels please note that i use my HDTV as a second monitor for my PC as well, and image retention and burn in are a huge factor for me. You can have a look at my gallery and it will give you a better idea. My initial and first idea was to get the Samsung UN46B8500. Unfortuantely, it was not released in Canada, thus not a possibility. The full array LED back light was the perfect answer my my black level woes, too bad....... I have read that Samsung, for pricing reasons will be sticking with edge lit LED models from now on, but the new "UN46C8000" will feature an innovative hybrid LED backlight which will improve black levels to near plasma levels and eliminate flashlighting / clouding. This is something that only the 9000 series and 8000 series will feature. Anything else such as the 7000 series will strickly be edge lit... http://www.futureshop.ca/en-CA/produ...f4bbe018f9en02 I realize it may be difficult to answer as there are currently no reviews on 3D LED Samsung models but here we go anyways: 1. Will the UN46C8000 truly 100% eliminate uneven backlights and get rid of that awful flashlighting and clouding that has plagued LCD since being introduced? With this new type of LED backlighting i wonder if it is as great as advertised. I am more concerned about black levels then i am about 3-D, so i want to be sure i won't have any nasty surprises.... 2. Will i absolutely have to replace my Receiver which is only HDMI 1.3 compatible? My current setup has the HT-AS-720 doing a spiffy job for a small room and i don't want to replace it because of HDMI 1.4. 3. Will there be ANY 3-D compatible bluray players which will feature a HDMI 1.4 Video out, AND a HDMI Audio Out 1.3? This would defer me from having to replace my A/V receiver.....I believe the current 3-D bluray players only have HDMI 1.4 out, meaning i'm screwed.... If anyone can answer these questions, shed some light, or help in any way I would be very appreciative. Thank you kindly in advance ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() -Joe Last edited by DJ_NachoMan; 03-08-2010 at 07:24 PM. |
